    • PURPOSE:To obtain a metal carrier with satisfactory adhesiveness and high durability and catalytic activity by forming a metal layer on the periphery of a rod-like core as a cell forming material, then bundling these cell forming materials together as a single body and diffusing/junctioning the materials with the removal of the core. CONSTITUTION:A metal foil 2 of chromium, aluminum and iron is wound around a rod-like core 1 of resin so that the foil makes a single run around the core. Then after cutting the foil 2, the ends are junctioned to form a cell forming material 3. After this, these materials are bundled together into a single body 4 and this body is compressed so that it becomes square in cross-section as a base for the carrier. In addition, this base is soaked in an organic solvent such as toluene to dissolve and remove the rod-like core and at the same time, the surface of the foil 2 is washed. Next an additional aluminum layer is formed on the inner surface of the cell and the base with the aluminum layer is placed in an electric furnace for diffusion and junction. Thus a metal carrier with satisfactory adhesiveness and high durability/catalytic activity is obtained.

    • PURPOSE:To convert hydrocarbon, CO and NOx in an exhaust gas to non- polluting materials by successively laminating a catalyst layer essentially consisting of zeolite and catalyst layer essentially consisting of a noble metal catalyst having oxidation-reduction power on a carrier, thereby forming the catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A 1st catalyst layer 12 essentially consisting of the zeolite is laminated on the carrier 10 and the 2nd catalyst layer 14 essentially consisting of the noble metal catalyst having the oxidation-reduction power is laminated on the layer 12 to form the catalyst for converting the hydrocarbon, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide in the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine to non-polluting materials. So-called monolith carriers, granular pellet carriers, etc., are used for the carrier. The 2nd catalyst is formed by depositing noble metal catalysts such as Pt, Pd, and Rh in the form of the soln. thereof on the coating layer after forming the coating layer consisting of alumina, etc., on the 1st catalyst layer.

    • PURPOSE:To control the generation of imperfect parts, by laminating and winding a corrugated sheet and a flat sheet while the thermoplastic resin in a brazing material is melted, and temporarily fixing the sheet by the thermoplastic resin in the brazing material to form a compact. CONSTITUTION:The thin sheet of an iron-chromium-aluminum alloy is used for the corrugated sheet 2 and the flat sheet 1. The brazing material is prepared, for example, by using 40wt% Ni-Cr alloy and 60wt% thermoplastic polyethylene resin, melting the mixture to uniformly disperse the components, and then cooling and curing the material. The brazing material is packed in an inside coating machine 4 and an outside coating machine 3. The tip of the coating machine is heated by a heater 4 to melt the material, the melt is extruded from a nozzle 5, and the melt is coated in portions of a specified amt. on the tops of the corrugated sheet 2 on both sides. The thermoplastic resin coated on the corrugated sheet 2 is cured before being brought into contact with the flat sheet 1, and stuck to the top as shown by 8.

CONSTITUTION:A first support layer composed of perovskite represented by RBO3 or R1-xAxBO3 (wherein R is an element of the group IIa of the Periodic Table, B is an element of the Periodic Table other than R and A is an element of the Periodic Table other than R and B) is formed to a catalyst carrier base material over a range from one end surface of the base material up to a predetermined length in the flow passage direction exhaust gas.
