    • A baud rate acquisition circuit (10) for synchronizing a sampling signal with an input signal operates in broad rate sweeping and a rate fine tuning phases. In the rate sweeping phase, a timing error detector (24) examines the sampling signal generated by a decimator (16). If the sampling signal is outside a rate acquisition range from the target rate, a rate sweeping algorithm selects a new sampling rate. In response to the sampling rate within the rate acquisition range, the timing error detector (24) examines the asymmetry thereof to generate a rate correction signal to synchronize the sampling signal with the input signal. Next in the rate fine tuning phase, a multiplexer (22) routes the sampling signal through a square root filter (18). By examining the waveform shaped signal, the time error detector (24) synchronizes the sampling signal with the input signal with high accuracy.

    • A system and a method for a Mobile Host (MH) implementing a multicast service, wherein each MH corresponds to a Dynamic multicast Agent (DMA); the DMA needs to implement dynamic switch according to the path that the MH passes when moving; if the DMA of the MH is switched to the MSA of the current multicast sub-network, the MH joins the multicast group directly, thereby optimizing the transmission path of the multicast. The present invention can not only make the multicast distributing tree reconstruction caused by moving of the MH less frequent, but also avoid a too long tunnel form between the DMA and the MSA of a foreign multicast sub-networks, thereby optimizing the transmission path of the multicast packet. The present invention can also make the best use of network resources, and prevent the DMA from becoming the bottleneck of network communication while avoiding tunnel congregation.

    • A method for assigning servers to provide multiple description bitstreams to a mobile client (in a mobile client environment) or to a fixed client (in a fixed client environment). In one embodiment, the present invention, upon receiving a request from a mobile client to have media data streamed thereto, analyzes a plurality of servers to determine a first candidate server for providing a first multiple description bitstream to the base station along a first path. The present method also determines a second candidate server for providing a second multiple description bitstream to the base station along a second path. The present method then sends a request to the first candidate server to provide the first multiple description bitstream to a mobile client through a base station along the first path, and also sends a request to the second candidate server to provide the second multiple description bitstream to the mobile client through the same base station along a second path. In another embodiment, there are two separate paths from two separate servers to two separate base stations and then from each base station there is a separate path to the mobile client. In still another embodiment, there are two paths from a single server to two separate base stations and then from each base station there is a separate path to the mobile client. In one fixed client embodiment, the present invention is able to assign a plurality of servers to provide a plurality of MD bitstreams to the fixed client.
