    • A vest is provided that may be quickly and easily removed from a wearer of the vest. The vest includes a waist belt, a cummerbund, and shoulder straps which may be easily released from the vest by the use of a flexible retainer in cooperation with a connector device secures the waist belt, cummerbund and shoulder straps to the vest in a releasable manner. A cable portion of the retainer moves in a generally straight line except for accommodating curved portions of the body of the wearer. An accessory pouch may also be provided which uses a strap and loop arrangement on the vest and pouch to attach the accessory pouch to the vest.

    • A hearing protection device is disclosed. The hearing protection device is comprised of an assembly consisting of an earplug attached to a first end of a flexible leash and an earring attachment barrel attached at a second or distal end of the same flexible leash. In use, the attachment barrel may be easily inserted onto a post or hook of any standard earring wherein the earplug may be allowed to dangle from the earring when worn. When the wearer requires sound suppression, he/she simply inserts the earplug into their ear canal without removing the earplug assembly from their earring. The earplug assembly is easily removed from the ear canal by the wearer simply tugging on the flexible leash. The earplug assembly may be removed from the earrings, and may be washed and reused over and over again or used with another pair of earrings.

    • Packet formats and associated metering infrastructure for filtering meter reading data that is being transmitted by utility meters are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method is provided of measuring the accuracy of an endpoint clock, such as a utility meter clock, from a remote device configured to capture transmissions that originate from the utility meter. Generally, the method includes synchronizing the time maintained by the utility meter with the time maintained by the remote device. The method receives and decodes a packet that includes a time stamp provided by the utility meter. Then, the method calculates the extent of the inaccuracy of the time stamp in the received packet and determines whether the extent of the inaccuracy satisfies a predetermined threshold.

    • Embodiments relate generally to electrical and electronic hardware, computer software, wired and wireless network communications, and wearable/mobile computing devices configured to facilitate health and wellness monitoring and maintenance. More specifically, disclosed are systems, components and methods to detect physiological characteristics, such as heart rate, of an organism in real-time based on components of light. In various embodiments, a method can include receiving color channel signals including imagery data generated by, for example, an image capture device. A linear combination of the color channel signals can form a combined color channel signal. The method also can include transforming continuously the combined color channel signal to establish local maxima associated with multiple scales. Further, portions of time associated with the local maxima can be identified and data signal representing a physiological characteristic can be generated. A local maximum can indicate the presence of enhanced blood volume adjacent a tissue surface.

    • A method for visually depicting complex events. Software agents are preferably employed to assist the human operator by collecting, enriching, selecting, aggregating, and analyzing data so that patterns of interest can be visually flagged or otherwise emphasized in the visual display. Events are depicted as an “event flow” from a source surface to a destination surface. Intervening surfaces may also be defined. The point of origin on the source surface reveals some information about the event flow, as does the point of impact on the destination surface. The event flow may be mapped to one or more intervening surfaces in order to visually depict other characteristics of the event. The entire depiction is rendered in a simulated three-dimensional view. The user is preferably given the ability to pan, zoom, and reorient the vantage point from which the user “views” the depiction on the computer display.
