    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten an execution work period by excavating the ground of a joining part between shielding tunnels by soil improving cutters simultaneously with excavation propulsion of a shielding machine. SOLUTION: Excavation propelling cutters 11 rotated by a driving motor 16 are provided by three sets in the vertical direction in a working face side end part of an outer shell 1 of a shilding machine. Soil improving cutters 12 rotated by a driving motor 17 are provided by four sets in a position corresponding to a joining part between shilding tunnels in the working face side end part of the shielding machine so as to be freely mountable and demountable. A backfilling material injecting device 15 to perform a foundation improvement by injecting and filling a backfilling material into excavating earth and sand is provided in a tail part or the like of the outer shell 1. The ground of the joining part between the shielding tunnels is excavated by the soil improving cutters 12 simultaneously with excavation propulsion of the shielding machine, and a special improving material is injected into the excavating earth and sand by the backfilling material injecting device 15, and a foundation improvement is performed. Therefore, an execution work period can be shortened, and construction cost can be reduced.

At that time, the hardening agent is discharged from the nozzles 4 in the cutter head 2 to excavate, and the hardening agent and excavated earth are kneaded with the stirring wing 3 at the rear. Further, after excavating the connecting section, a tail plate 33 is connected to the rear end part of the outer shell 32 of the nuclear shield machine 3, which is then separated from the front drum 1 to start the excavation of an adit. Hence, the connecting part of the shaft and the adit can be excavated at a right angle or sharp angle to construct a tunnel, and the constructing cost and period can be reduced.
