    • A hydraulic vehicle brake system and method of operating same. The system includes an electrohydraulic wheel brake pressure modulation unit, a master brake cylinder (11) which has a pressure medium storage reservoir (12) for hydraulic brake fluid and which can be actuated by means of a brake pedal (9) and to which first and second brake circuits (I, II) are connected. Wheel brakes (3, 4, 5, 6) are connected to the first and second brake circuits (I, II). Each of the first and second brake circuits have a pair of inlets valves (14a-d, 114a-b) and a pair of outlet valves (15a-d, 115a-b) connected to the wheel brakes (3, 4, 5, 6). The outlets of the outlet valves (15a-d, 115a-b) of each of the first and second brake circuits (I, II) are connected to one another by means of jointly used hydraulic line sections (16a, 16b). A safety valve (17a, 117a; 17b, 117b) is provided by means of which an outflow of brake fluid medium out of the line section (16a, 16b) via an outlet port of the safety valves (17a, 117a; 17b, 117b) can be monitored as a means of checking the leak-tightness of the outlet valve and the safety valve.

    • Disclosed is a method for operating a hydraulic vehicle brake system, having a brake pressure generator operable by a brake actuating device and essentially consisting of a master brake cylinder and a hydraulic booster connected upstream thereof which includes a booster chamber and a booster piston arranged therein, which latter for brake force boosting purposes, can be acted upon by a hydraulic pressure of a high-pressure accumulator that is chargeable by a hydraulic pump according to a sensor system which detects actuation and/or according to a pressure sensor sensing the hydraulic pressure that prevails in the master brake cylinder. In order to provide a safe fallback mode, upon failure of the high-pressure accumulator, the wheel brakes are acted upon by hydraulic pressure of the hydraulic pump according to the sensor system which detects actuation or according to the pressure sensor. Likewise, provisions are made that upon failure of the pump, hydraulic pressure out of the high-pressure accumulator is applied to the booster chamber according to the sensor system which detects actuation or according to the pressure sensor.

    • An actuating unit for a hydraulic brake system for automotive vehicles which operates by a precisely defined change-over pressure and with lost travel independent of the speed of actuation. The actuating unit includes a pneumatic brake power booster and a master brake cylinder connected downstream of the pneumatic brake power booster. The master brake cylinder contains a primary piston coupled with an annular piston of larger diameter. The annular piston confines a filling chamber which may be connected to the hydraulic pressure chamber. The annular piston is adapted to uncouple from the primary piston when the pressure acting on the annular piston reaches a predetermined amount. Thus, the displacement of the filling volume by the annular piston does not require an entire stroke of the master brake cylinder.
