    • The instant invention is directed to a process for the preparation of an alkyl-substituted urea of the formula ##STR1## wherein R and R', which may be the same or different, represents hydrogen or a saturated hydrocarbon radical, provided that at least one represents a saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, comprising reacting, unpressurized, at from 110.degree. to 170.degree. C., urea with an amine having a boiling point, under normal pressure, at least 10.degree. C. below the reaction temperature, said amine corresponding to the formula: ##STR2## wherein R and R' are as defined above, and wherein for each mol of urea present, at least one mol of amine is used, the improvement wherein the reaction is carried out in the presence of from 20 to 95% by weight, based on the total quantity of reactants and auxiliary agents, if any, of an organic liquid boiling, under normal pressure, above the reaction temperature, which is inert under the reaction conditions and which serves as a dispersing agent or a solvent for the urea and for the product of the process and is a solvent for the amine.

    • The invention is directed to a process for the production of polyether polyols having an average molecular weight of from 200 to 10,000 and an average hydroxyl functionality of from 2.0 to 7.0, comprising reacting one or more alkylene oxides, optionally successively, with a mixture of polyhydric alcohols which has been produced by reduction of the condensation products from the condensation of formaldehyde hydrate. The invention is also directed to the process for the production of polyether polyols characterized in that the mixture of polyhydric alcohols is mixed with dihydric and/or trihydric alcohols and/or monoamines or polyamines prior to alkoxylation. Finally, the invention is directed to the use of the alkoxylated mixtures as the isocyanate-reactive component in the production of optionally cellular polyurethane plastics.

    • This invention relates to new polyols modified by guanidine groups, to a process for the preparation thereof and to the use thereof as starting component for the preparation of preferably foamed polyurethane plastics. The process involves (A) reacting diisocyanato-carbodiimides corresponding to the following general formula:OCN--(R.sup.2 -N=C=N).sub.m R.sup.2 --NCOat a temperature of from about 25.degree. to 130.degree. C., optionally in the presence of an inert solvent, with polyhydroxyl compounds corresponding to the following general formula:A--OH).sub.nin an OH/NCO-ratio of from 1.2:1 to 30:1 to form a polyhydroxyl compound containing carbodiimide groups and (B) completely or partly reacting, at a temperature of from 0.degree. to 150.degree. C., the remaining carbodiimide groups remaining in the production of Step (A), optionally in the presence of an inert solvent, with an amine, amide or hydrazide corresponding to the following general formula:R.sup.3 --NR.sup.1 H).sub.sto form guanidine groups, and (C) distilling off the inert solvent, if used; whereinm represents an integer of from 1 to 10; andR.sup.1 represents a C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 aliphatic, C.sub.4 -C.sub.15 cycloaliphatic or C.sub.6 -C.sub.15 aromatic or araliphatic radical which may optionally contain a double bond and/or be branched and which may optionally be substituted by a group selected from the group of hydroxyl or trifluoromethyl groups, fluorine, chlorine, bromine or iodine;R.sup.2 represents a divalent aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, aromatic or araliphatic radical having from 4 to 25 carbon atoms obtained by removing the isocyanate groups from a diisocyanate;A represents an n-valent radical of the type obtained by removing the hydroxyl groups from a polyhydroxyl compound having a molecular weight of from 62 to 6000;n represents an integer of from 2 to 8;s represents an integer of from 1 to 3.
