    • A system and method for transmitting UL data associated with DL multiple point transmission are provided. A method for transmission point operations includes determining an identifier associated with each transmission point in a downlink serving set that includes a primary transmission point and at least one secondary transmission point, transmitting downlink information to a user equipment, and receiving, at a receiving transmission point, uplink data including a first identifier of an intended recipient from the user equipment, where the intended recipient is a first transmission point in the downlink serving set. The method also includes forwarding the uplink data to the intended recipient based on the first identifier.

    • In order to address the above-mentioned need, a method and apparatus for assigning time-domain resources to a wireless receiver is provided herein. During operation a resource assigned to a particular node will comprise a particular-length subframe having a unique combination of a number of contiguous slots and a slot start time. The subframe will repeat after a predetermined number of slots to form a subframe pattern. For a given frequency resource (group of subchannels), each node to which the base station is transmitting a packet will have a unique subframe length, starting slot, and repetition time period. Because each node will be assigned a subframe pattern having a particular length, and because each node's transmissions will begin at varying slots, the resources may be assigned to multiple nodes without having any transmissions overlap.

    • In a wireless communication system, a scheduler (100) determines (306) a first set of modulation and coding schemes (MCSs), each of which produces a maximum data rate for a first user, in accordance with available resource constraints (304) of the wireless communication system. The scheduler then forms, for each MCS of the first set, a second set of MCSs that produces the maximum data rate for a second user in accordance with a first residual resource (314) that remains when applying that MCS to the first user, thereby producing (316) a group of second sets of MCSs. After producing the group of second sets, the scheduler selects (324), from the first set and for the first user, a first optimal MCS corresponding to one of the group of second sets that allows a highest maximum data rate for the second user.
