摘要： A composite structure is manufactured by joining a first material, preferably made of a magnetically permeable material and having a first joining surface in which a recess having an overhang surface is formed, to a second material, preferably made of an electrically conductive material and having a second joining surface to be joined to the first joining surface of the first material. On the second joining surface is integrally formed a protrusion having an outer configuration substantially corresponding to the inner shape of the recess. The first and second materials are firmly mechanically joined to each other by, for example, a casting method, a rolling method, a pressing method, or a method utilizing plastic flow of the second material.

摘要： An apparatus for fusion splicing optical fibers has one rotatable clamp mechanism that is manually operated and a second rotatable clamp mechanism that is operated by a motor. A three position stopper functions in the first position as a stopper against the optical fibers when the optical fibers are moved toward each other and in the second position as a mirror for reflecting an image of respective end faces of the optical fibers. A rapid fine adjustment of the alignment of the polarization maintaining optical fibers can be made.

摘要： A composite cylinder head of an internal-combustion engine includes a bottom wall part to face the combustion chamber and a reinforcement part disposed on the side of the bottom wall part opposite to the combustion chamber and functioning as a back-up reinforcement of the bottom wall part. The two parts of the cylinder head are joined into a single integral structure. The bottom wall part is formed from a metal of higher high-temperature strength and lower thermal conductivity than those of the material of the reinforcement part. This cylinder head makes possible the use of a higher maximum pressure within the cylinder than that in the case of a conventional cylinder head.
