    • PURPOSE: To prevent oxidation of charged molten steel through isolating it from the atmosphere so as to obtain sound steel ingot by supplying a molten metal surface coating agent into the mold in the process of bottom charge casting and at the same time by providing a cover between the charge port of a ladle and the charge pipe.
      CONSTITUTION: The molten metal in a ladle 1 is charged into a mold 8 from the bottom through a charge pipe 6 set on a molding board 10 and a runner 7. In this case, a molten metal surface coating agent 9 is supplied in advance in the mold 8. Moreover, an air interrupting cover 5 is installed between a charge port 3 and the charge pipe 6 and an inert gas is introduced within the cover. Therefore, castings are performed in the state that the bottom of the ladle, the charge pipe 6, and the runner 7 are isolated from the atmosphere by the molten metal surface coating agent, and the oxidation preventing effect is considerably enhanced with less using of the inert gas. Thus steel ingots having less nonmetallic inclusions are casted.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of segregation and internal defects effectively by blowing an inert gas into a mold from its bottom part at a predetermined flow rate during pouring or after ending of pouring in the case of performing bottom charge ingot making. CONSTITUTION:Molten metal passes through the sprue consisting of lining bricks 10 and a metal frame 11 and the cross gate in cross gate bricks 1 and is poured into the mold through the pouring port formed by the casting port bricks 6 and rising board 15 in the lower part of the casting of the lower part of the mold. An inert gas feed pipe 9 is provided within the molding board 2 of this mold and an inert gas is blown through said pipe 9 into the cross gate from the porous bricks 3 provided right under the rising part of the pouring port bricks 6 at a flow rate within a 5-100l/min range during pouring and after ending of the pouring. Thence, at the time of stopping blowing the inert gas, the rate of blowing is successively lowered and the blowing is stopped when the rate of blowing becomes 1/2 of the maximum rate of blowing. Here, it is also possible to blow the inert gas from the circumference of the rising port.
