摘要： A sheet processing apparatus which is capable of discharging a sheet at the optimum sheet discharging speed without stopping the conveyance of the sheet irrespective of differences in sheet conveying speed according to sheet types. A sheet discharging motor is controlled to drive a discharging roller to convey sheets in selected one of a first state in which the sheets are conveyed at speeds within a first speed range specified by a first maximum speed and a first minimum speed, and a second state in which the sheets are conveyed at speeds within a second speed range specified by a second maximum speed lower than the first maximum speed and a second minimum speed lower than the first minimum speed. The first speed range includes an overlapping range where the first speed range and the second speed range overlap.

A sheet discharger discharges the processed sheet to a stacking unit, the unit having a cover which may be opened or closed and which includes a detector for detecting whether or not the cover is opened and closed, and a controller will immediately stop, in a case where the discharge process to the sheet that is performed by the discharge unit, driving of the sheet discharge unit and sheet conveyor when it is detected that the cover is opened and for continuing, in a case where the discharge process to the sheet is not performed by the sheet discharge unit, the driving of the sheet conveyor in spite of the detection that the cover is open.

摘要： Provided are a high-quality sheet feeding apparatus which can detect multifeeding of sheets in a wide range of the sheet conveying direction and realize a stable conveying state, and an image forming apparatus therewith. A CPU controls a multifeeding detection sensor to detect multifeeding of sheets at a plurality of transmission points P1 to P5 of the multifeeding detection sensor. This CPU sets a plurality of transmission points across the front end and rear end of a sheet moving in the sheet conveying direction, based on size information of the sheet read from a storage portion and the timing of detection passing of the sheet in a horizontal path first sensor. This enables detection of multifeeding across the front end and rear end of a preceding sheet in the sheet conveying direction, and also enables detection of unseparated multifeeding that a subsequent sheet follows overlapping the preceding sheet.
