A method for communications device operation includes estimating a communications channel between the communications device and a controller serving the communications device, thereby producing a channel estimate, quantizing the channel estimate using a codebook, thereby producing a selected codeword, and transmitting an index corresponding to the selected codeword from the codebook to the controller. The codebook includes a plurality of first level codewords, and each first level codeword includes a plurality of subsidiary codewords.

摘要： A system and method is provided for employing six-bit rank 1 and 2 codebooks for multiple transmit antennas. A channel estimate is generated for a communications channel that can be established between a communications device and a controller serving the communications device. The channel estimate can be quantized using a codebook to produce a selected codeword. An index corresponding to the selected codeword can be transmitted to the controller. The codebook can include a plurality of first level codewords, with each first level codeword having a plurality of subsidiary codewords. The quantizing can be in the form of a search of the first level codewords followed by a search of a subset of a plurality of subsidiary codewords, and the codebook can be derived at least in part from a rank of communications between the communications device and the controller.

The UE receive training signals from a plurality of transmit-receive points (TRPs) associated with the gNB. Each training signal may comprise a reference signal resource identifier (ID) to indicate a corresponding TRP and a corresponding transmit direction of a plurality of transmit directions. The UE may, for each transmit direction of the plurality of transmit directions, determine an average signal quality measurement based on individual signal quality measurements in multiple receive directions. The UE may select, for reporting to the gNB, a subset of the average signal quality measurements to ensure that the average signal quality measurements excluded from the subset are less than or equal to a minimum value of the average signal quality measurements in the subset.
