摘要： To increase the horizontal bandwith of the Weston PAL chrominance signal spectrum folding techniques are used. Spectral components with high horizontal frequency and low vertical and/or temporal frequency are carried as components with low horizontal frequency and high vertical and/or temporal frequency. A matrix (120) forms U+V(P) and U-V(M) chrominance signals which are then prefiltered using either rhombic spatial filters or rhombic vertical-temporal filters (122, 124). The two signals are then sampled by sampler (126, 128) which together with switch (136) form U+V samples on alternate lines to the U-V samples. The sampling patterns for the P and M signals are identical but shifted.

摘要： In a television system in which a signal of given bandwidth is to be transmitted over a channel of narrower bandwidth, the signal is subject to pre-filtering and subsampling at the transmitter and supersampling and post-filtering at the receiver. The post-filtering means (14) comprises three filters A, B and C in parallel which are selectable in response to the characteristics of the signal to be transmitted. In order to avoid anomalies caused by switching at the transmitter, the pre-filter (10) is a single filter with a fixed pass band equivalent to the union of the pass bands of the filters A, B and C of the post-filtering means (14). The pre-filter (10) thus effectively rejects signals of frequency, such that they would not be passed by any of the filters A, B and C.

The viewer enters on a keypad (42) short labels comprising up to three decimal digits which are converted by a mapping function processor (44), e.g. a look-up table, into full 16-bit binary codes which differ in at least two binary positions. These codes are stored (40) and compared with the received codes and when they agree the video recorder is switched to record the TV signal. The viewer thus does not have to enter long codes but can use short labels to identify the programmes. The labels are printed in the TV Guide (16).

摘要： The cassette (10) containing the sequential access recording medium, such as magnetic tape, has as a separate storage device (12) embedded in the cassette casing. A directory for information stored on the tape is held in the separate storage device (12) which comprises a non-volatile random access memory and associated microprocessor. When the cassette (10) is loaded into a tape transport mechanism (16), the directory is accessed by an inductive coupling (14) or electrical contact pads, under the control of the associated microprocessor. Directory data from the storage device can be used to control the tape transport, through a separate microprocessor device. Directory information may be obtained by interactive dialogue with the user, or as supplementary information accompanying a data file or program to be stored.

摘要： A correlation surface is derived by phase correlating two pictures selectively displaced in the X and Y directions. The illustrative surface shows a large peak at zero displacement, corresponding to a stationary background, and a fairly large peak corresponding to a moving object, the X, Y position of the peak indicating the magnitude (pixels per field period) and direction of the motion vector. A set of motion vectors is thus determined and testing is then carried out, on a pixel by pixel basis or pixel block by pixel block basis, to determine which of the motion vectors gives the best match in deriving the second picture from the first. The motion vector thus assigned may be used in temporal interpolation of the pictures.

摘要： A video signal received from a source (10) is bandwidth-compressed by filters (12, 14, 16), filter (14) being a temporal filter and filter (16) being a spatial filter. Selection of the filter to be used is dependent upon picture content. The transmitter reconstitutes in interpolators (44, 46) the signal which would be regenerated at the receiver, determines which filter gives the best results, and transmits an indication of which filter has been used in a digital signal associated with the analogue video signal. Preferably a determination of motion vectors associated with the signal is made and the digital signal indicates which of the determined motion vectors is applicable to different areas of te picture. By transmitting the control signal digitally with the analogue video signal the receiver circuitry is greatly simplified while its reliability is improved.
