    • A fixing device fixes a toner image on a recording medium by heating the recording medium, with a heating area and a non-heating area selected in accordance with a magnetic flux and a repulsive magnetic flux. The fixing device includes a heat generating layer, an exciting coil, and a demagnetizing member. The heat generating layer generates heat. The exciting coil generates the magnetic flux, and thereby inductively heats the heat generating layer. The demagnetizing member faces the heat generating layer in the non-heating area. The demagnetizing member generates the repulsive magnetic flux against the magnetic flux generated by the exciting coil, and thereby demagnetizes the magnetic flux and suppresses the heating. Further, the demagnetizing member has a demagnetization effect different between at least a portion of the non-heating area adjacent to the heating area and the remaining portion of the non-heating area.

    • A liquid applicator having a discharge roller (3) that discharges a liquid fed from feeding means in a prescribed pattern. The liquid discharged from the discharge roller (3) is applied to a moving substrate (S). The discharge roller (3) includes a surface plate (31) and a roller main body (32). The roller main body (32) has on its peripheral portion a recess (33) of prescribed shape, in which a liquid is introduced through the inside of the roller main body (32) and spread along the surface of the surface plate (31). The surface plate (31) has, in its portion covering the recess (33), a liquid exit part (3b) that permits exit of the liquid in a pattern different from the opening shape of the recess (33) and a liquid block part (3c) that blocks passage of a liquid. The liquid exit part (3b) is formed of a porous material having a large number of fine pores.

    • A method for driving a liquid crystal display device is provided. The device includes a plurality of row electrodes to which a scanning signal is applied: a plurality of column electrodes disposed so as to cross the plurality of row electrodes, to which a display data signal is applied; and a liquid crystal layer interposed between one of the plurality of row electrodes and one of the plurality of column electrodes, for performing a display at a crossing portion of one of the plurality of row electrodes and one of the plurality of column electrodes in response to an effective value of a voltage applied across one of the plurality of row electrodes and one of the plurality of column electrodes, wherein gray-scale display data consisting of a plurality of bits is received, and a voltage of a display data signal selected per bit by a scanning signal is applied during a period in which weights are assigned to bits during one horizontal scanning period and a voltage applying timing is made different at at least one column electrode, whereby a gray-scale display is realized.
