    • A thermal printer drive control apparatus of the type having a thermal print head comprising a plurality of heating elements provides for reliable cost effective thermal head temperature detection by means of producing multiple, different current flow intervals that are applied to binary data to produce data drive signals for the heating elements. The current flow intervals are based upon historical drive data derived from linear temperature conditions sensed at the thermal print head. This information is converted to a digitized representation for use in conjunction with a table placed in memory that provides predetermined current flow intervals based upon the digitized representation. Further, circuitry is provided to produce heating element drive signals having pulse widths based upon the determined current flow intervals.

    • A rotary shutter adapted to be used in an electronic still camera comprises a rotatable shutter having shutter openings which are variable in size. The shutter is rotated by an electric motor in order to open and close intermittently an exposure aperture of the camera. A phase detector for detecting the phase of rotation of the shutter member provides a series of phase signal, and cooperates with a signal generator for generating stop signals in synchronism with the phase signals when a particular shutter speed is selected and a circuit for braking the motor to stop the shutter member. Responsive to the particular shutter speed selecting operation, the shutter opening is opened to its maximum size and the rotary shutter is simultaneously stopped quickly in position so as to open fully the exposure aperture of the camera.

    • A surface communication device of the present invention includes: an electromagnetic wave propagation unit which propagates electromagnetic waves and has a sheet shape; and at least one of a power feeding device unit which is disposed on the electromagnetic wave propagation unit in a non-conductive state with the electromagnetic wave propagation unit and feeds the electromagnetic waves to the electromagnetic wave propagation unit, and a reception device unit which is disposed on the electromagnetic wave propagation unit in a non-conductive state with the electromagnetic wave propagation unit and receives the electromagnetic waves propagated via the electromagnetic wave propagation unit. The at least one of the power feeding device unit and the reception device unit includes: an electromagnetic wave coupling unit which transmits the electromagnetic waves to the electromagnetic wave propagation unit or receives the electromagnetic waves from the electromagnetic wave propagation unit; and an electromagnetic wave suppression unit which includes a plurality of conductor unit structures arranged along a surface of the electromagnetic wave propagation unit so as to surround the electromagnetic wave coupling unit, and suppresses leakage of the electromagnetic waves from a space between the electromagnetic wave coupling unit and the electromagnetic wave propagation unit.
