    • A supercooling device is provided to prevent water of a passage from being frozen by applying an electric field to a water supply passage and a water outflowing passage. A supercooling device comprises a water cask(106), a water supply passage(104a), a water outflowing passage(104b), and an electric field generating unit(107). The water cask stores water in low temperature. The water supply passage has an end which is connected with a lower part of the water cask, and supplies water into the water cask. The water outflowing passage draws out water from the water cask to the outside. The electric field generating unit is placed around the water cask, and applies electric field to the water cask. The water supply passage is gently sloped. The water supply passage is spirally formed.

A slush making apparatus consists of: a supercooled water storage tank(100) with an energy generator(200); a container(300) to receive slush converted from supercooled liquid to solid phase; an impeller(400); a refrigeration cycle(500) to supply cold air to the container; a phase converter to apply an external force to the container to convert the supercooled liquid into the solid phase; a compressor(520); a heat exchanger(540); and a condenser(560). At least a portion of the container is covered with an insulating material(320). The energy generator comprises a first electrode(210) and a second electrode(220) to generate an electric field.

    • A refrigerator and a method of operating the same are provided to store kimchi including water in a supercooled slush form, instead of freezing it and to maintain the slush state by temperature control, thereby increasing freshness of stored foods. A refrigerator comprises a case(100) including a door(200), a space(300), a refrigerant pipe(400), and a supercooling part(320). The space is provided within the case, cooled by chilled air, and where water and kimchi is to be stored. The refrigerant pipe is provided around the space to supply chilled air to the space. The supercooling part, occupying at least one part of the space and where supercooled liquid is accommodated, is provided with a phase changer(800) to exert external force to turn the supercooled liquid into solid state as slush. The supercooling part comprises a heater(600) to provide heat to the supercooling part, and an energy generator(700) providing energy to maintain supercooled state of the liquid. A method of operating the refrigerator comprises the steps of: supercooling the liquid in the space; exerting external force on the supercooled liquid and turning it into a solid state as slush; and controlling temperature to prevent the slush from freezing and maintain the solid state.
