    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorber capable of effectively obtaining desired shock absorption characteristics.SOLUTION: A shock absorber (8) is a hollow box body having a top surface part (12) having a linear edge part (14) configured to receive a shock load from an external plate panel during a side collision, a side wall part (18) extending from each edge part of the top surface part toward a door trim, and a base (22) which is connected to an edge part (18c) of the side wall part, and made open facing the door trim, and receives a shock load during the side collision. The base is fitted to the door trim, and a slit (26) provided at a border part (28) of adjacent side wall parts and extending from the base is formed in the shock absorber; and the side wall part has an inclined part (18a) inclined to a side of the shock absorber and outward, and the shock absorber has a rib member (30) extending from the top surface part to the base inside the hollow box body and connecting the adjacent side wall parts to each other.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display unit which has an improved dark panel effect and maintains a contrast ratio and a display luminosity adequate for an LCD device with back-light.SOLUTION: The display unit includes: a light source S, a liquid crystal cell at the rear of a display region A, a first and a second polarizers P1, P2. When the first polarizer polarizes the back light irradiation and polarization of the irradiation is rotated by a cell, a pair of polarizers is formed at both sides of the cell so that the second polarizer passes/blocks the irradiation. A first cover sheet spreads over the cell, and a second cover sheet spreads over the first sheet which spreads over the cell. One of the cover sheets includes a third polarizer P3, and the other of the cover sheets includes a dimmer filter ND. The second and the third polarizers are matched with each other so that the irradiation which passes through the second polarizer can pass through the third polarizer. The first cover sheet is separated from the display region by an interval D1 so that a peripheral external light which is rear-reflected/diffused from the display region is attenuated by passing through the dimmer filter twice and passing through the third polarizer twice.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method for jointly reducing damage from an impending collision between multiple vehicles.SOLUTION: A system which jointly reduces damage from an impending collision between multiple vehicles includes sensing devices, a processor, a memory, output devices, and communication devices. The sensing devices sense conditions near, around, in, or involving multiple vehicles. The memory is in electronic communication with the processor, and includes a programming code for execution by the processor. The programming code is configured to analyze the sensed conditions sensed by the sensing devices to jointly determine and output instructions to multiple vehicles for jointly reducing damage from an impending collision between the multiple vehicles. The output devices output or implement the jointly determined output instructions to multiple vehicles. The communication devices communicate the sensed conditions from the sensing devices to the processor, and communicate the jointly determined output instructions from the processor to the output devices.
