The cover includes engaging and lock pieces that interact with engaging and lock parts provided on the sidewalls of the housing to secure the cover in the closed position.

    • A card connector is configured for receiving a generally rectangular card therein. The card has contact pads and generally parallel first and second sides with a cut-away portion formed in the first side in proximity to a front end of the card. The cut-away portion includes a short length extending from the front end generally parallel to the first side, and a tapered shoulder part extending from the short length to the first side. The connector includes an insulative housing with first and second spaced apart sidewalls that define a cavity therein for receiving the card in an insertion direction. A tapered surface is provided adjacent the first sidewall to guide an improperly inserted card at an angle to the insertion direction and a second sidewall recess is formed in the second sidewall to permit entrance of a corner part of such improperly inserted card. A plurality of electrically conductive terminals are mounted in the housing and configured to engage the contact pads of the card upon proper insertion of the card into the housing. A metal shell is also mounted on the housing.

    • An adapter (20) is provided for a memory card connector (22) which includes a receptacle (24) for receiving a larger size standard memory card (26) . The adapter includes a housing (28) having a size and shape on the order of that of the larger size standard memory card (26)for insertion into the receptacle of the connector. The housing includes a generally flat receiving area for receiving a smaller size standard memory card (32) for insertion with the housing into the receptacle. A clamping member (42) is provided on the housing for holding the smaller size standard memory card in the receiving area of the housing. Interengaging members are provided between the housing (28) and the smaller size standard memory card (32) to prevent the card from pulling out of the receiving area.

    • An adapter is provided for a memory card connector which includes a receptacle for receiving a larger size standard memory card. The adapter includes a front dielectric housing part and a rear dielectric housing part mounted to the front housing part. The two housing parts combine to form a shape that is substantially the same as the larger card. A metal shell is mounted on the rear housing part and combines therewith to define a cavity for receiving a smaller size standard memory card having a plurality of contact pads. A plurality of conductive terminals are mounted on the rear housing part and include contact portions projecting into the cavity for engaging the smaller card when inserted into the cavity, and pad portions projecting into the front housing part for engaging appropriate contacts on the memory card connector.

    • A memory card connector (14) includes an insulating housing (16) defining a front receptacle area communicating with an interior cavity (22) for receiving a memory card. A plurality of terminals (20) are mounted on the housing in a side-by-side array transversely across a rear of the housing. The terminals (20) have contact portions (20b) at a rear of the cavity for engaging contacts on a top side of the memory card. A sheet metal shell (18) covers at least a portion of the insulating housing (16) and includes a cover plate overlying at least a portion of the cavity. The shell (18) has a wrong insertion-proof projection (78) formed out of the cover plate and extending downwardly into the cavity and into a slot in the top of the memory card when the card is properly inserted into the cavity. The projection prevents an erroneously inserted memory card from engaging the contact portions of the terminals. The projection (78) is bent into an elbow-shaped cross-sectional configuration to prevent scarring or cracking of the memory card when erroneously inserted into the cavity.
