[Also,in Group XXXII] In a domestic wringer of the type including a housing K containing a pair of parallel rollers E 1 , E 2 which are urged towards one another by springs, the springs at each end of the rollers are in the form of a pair of leaf springs H, the centre portions of which act on the roller shafts, whilst each end-portion of each is shackled to the adjacent end-portion of the opposed spring by means independent of the housing K. A U-shaped frame C secured to the top edge of the container (a washing machine A) has extensions C 1 which are slotted at C 2 . The rollers E 1 , E 2 have shafts D 1 , D 2 which pass through the respective slots C 2 and are each journalled at each end in a D-shaped bearing block F. The block F is encircled by a U-shaped plate G which is slotted for the reception of the spring leaves (see Group XXXII). The outer ends of the main leaf of each spring are coupled by shackle plates J to the corresponding ends of the spring of the adjacent roller. The housing K comprises a pressed-metal or plastic casing (Fig. 4) which has slots K 3 for the passage of clothes and end-compartments K 4 which accommodate the springs. Part (not shown) of the casing overlies the ends of the shaft D 2 in order to prevent the springs and roller assembly from rising in the slots C 2 . The bearing blocks F are moulded from porous material which is impregnated with lubricant, and each block may have a recess to accommodate a felt pad which is impregnated with oil or grease. Specifications 613,737 and 647,885 are referred to in the Provisional Specification.

    • 613,978. Washing-machines. DEAN, W., and DEAN & SON, Ltd., W. H. June 28, 1946, No. 19461. [Class 138(ii)] [Also in Group XXV] Relates to a washing-machine of the type which is fitted with a hinged wringer 4 movable from an upright operative position to a horizontal inoperative position. According to the invention, the hinge connection of the wringer includes means for locking the wringer in an upright position consisting of a hook member 26 which is pivotally connected to the framework of the wringer and adapted at its free end so to engage a surface on the framework of the washing-machine as to be effective by hook action positively to prevent movement of the wringer away from the operative position. One hinge connection is provided at each end of the wringer and comprises a bracket 8 having two lugs 6 which are pivoted by a pin 11 on a lug 5 disposed on the top of the washing-machine. Each of the brackets 8 has a socket 9 for receiving a depending spigot 10 on the wringer, the spigot being held in position by a set screw 22. In the operative position of the wringer, the undersides of the lugs 6 seat on flat platforms on the top of the washing-machine. The hook member 26 is pivoted to one bracket 8 and has a winged screw 28 which engages a surface 30 behind a shoulder 32 on the underside of a lug 31 cast at the top part of the washing-machine. The other bracket 8 carries a pin which is secured on a chain and can engage registering holes in the lugs 5, in order to prevent movement of the wringer from its operative position. The wringer when in its inoperative position may be covered by a hinged table top which has two lugs pivoted thereto adapted to support the table in its horizontal position.
