    • A lightweight, low cost, solar heat collecting system is provided for use with homes and other buildings. Solar heat collecting panels are mounted on a roof or other support and connected to the building's heating system. A liquid black body medium is pumped to the elevated upper end of each unit and is allowed to drain down through each panel by gravity feed back into a storage tank where the heated liquid is circulated, on demand, through the building. Each heating panel is comprised of a rigid foam plastic frame having a back wall over which is disposed a reflective stratum. A sheet of plastic material having a black surface is bonded to the reflective stratum along spaced parallel lines to define a plurality of parallel channels extending lengthwise of the panel. Manifolds are provided at opposite ends of the panel to feed the liquid into and drain the liquid from the channels. Spaced layers of flexible, transparent plastic film are mounted to the frame across the front of the panel to pass radiant heat from the front to heat liquid in the channels and trap the heat absorbed by the panel.

    • This invention provides a solar heating unit constituted of any suitable flexible material, such as plastic, so that when not in use or during transportation it may be rolled into a compact structure easily transported and installed. Further the present solar heating unit consists of a plurality of tubes arranged in parallel relation and connected at their ends to manifolds with the two outermost tubes of the unit and the manifolds having a greater outside vertical diameter than the intermediate tubes, and a transparent envelope enclosing the entire unit and held in spaced relation above and below the surfaces of the tubes between the two outermost tubes, thus providing an insulating pocket of air about the tubes to prevent dissipation of heat by convection into the atmosphere surrounding the unit. The present invention further includes a pump for circulating a fluid at low pressure through the tubes and manifolds together with suitable pressure regulating means and check valve means to prevent reverse flow of fluid from the tubes when the pump is shut down.

The protection membrane encloses the solar heat collection tube, and comprises heat-retaining gas inside. The first reflective membrane is placed in a part of the protection membrane. The first reflective membrane reflects sunlight around the solar heat collection tube to the solar heat collection tube. The protection membrane encloses the heat-retaining membrane with the ground, and comprises the heat-retaining gas between the heat-retaining membrane and the ground. The solar heat collection mediums and the heat-retaining gas are selectively injected.

    • An inflatable solar oven is comprised of two sheets of flexible material which are sealed at their edges to form an enclosure. The top sheet is clear and the bottom sheet has a reflective layer. The two sheets can be inflated to form a spherical enclosure by passing air through an edge opening that is also large enough to access a water or food holding receptacle which can be placed with the inflated enclosure. Extended portions of the sheets that form the opening can be rolled up to form a closure for it. The inflated enclosure can be secured to the ground in an appropriate position to receive the sun's rays which pass through the clear sheet and reflect from the bottom sheet to heat the receptacle therein.

    • Relatively long plastic microfilaments are used to make reinforcing, filler materials and fabrics. A blowing gas is applied at a positive pressure to the inert surface of a liquid plastic film formed across a coaxial blowing nozzle to blow the film and form an elongated hollow tube having a thinned wall or weakened portion. An entraining fluid is directed at an angle over and around the blowing nozzle and as it passes over and around the blowing nozzle, it dynamically induces a pulsating or fluctuating pressure field at the opposite side of the blowing nozzle in the wake thereof and produces a laminar flow of entraining fluid in the vicinity of the forming elongated tube. The continued movement of the entraining fluid over the elongated tube produces asymmetric fluid drag forces on the tube, and at the thinned wall or weakened wall portion longitudinally breaks the tube to form a multiplicity of plastic microfilaments, and detaches the plastic microfilaments from the elongated tube and from the coaxial blowing nozzle and the detached microfilaments are carried away from the blowing nozzle. Quench nozzles or heating nozzles may be disposed below and on either side of the blowing nozzle to direct cooling or heating fluid at and into contact with the plastic microfilaments to cool or heat and cure, solidify and harden the plastic to form hard, smooth plastic microfilaments.
