    • There is provided a submersible turbine assembly comprising: a frame sized and configured for supporting one or more flowing water driven turbines at a predetermined depth range below the surface of a water body having a bed, the frame including at least one fixed buoyancy component and at least one variable buoyancy component and optionally one or more hydrodynamic lift-generating surfaces, the one or more flowing water driven turbines being expected to produce a drag force which varies with water velocity, the assembly being arranged to be maintained in a predetermined position above the water body bed and submerged below the expected water body surface by at least two upstream taut mooring line runs and at least one downstream taut mooring line run, wherein the mooring line runs are arranged to be anchored to the water body bed at respective anchor points spaced apart from a point below the expected position of the assembly by at least the height of the assembly above the water bed, the frame having attachment points for said taut mooring line runs comprising upper and lower attachment points for spaced apart attachment of upper and lower or primary and secondary mooring lines or cables forming each mooring line run, the attachment points arranged to permit movement of at least some of the mooring lines relative to the frame during installation and having an arrangement for locking the mooring lines relative to the frame during use, the assembly being arranged so that in use in a water current having a nominal flow velocity of 3 metres per second both the upstream and downstream mooring line runs remain taut and wherein the net upward force resulting from the fixed and variable buoyancy and any hydrodynamic lift minus the weight of the assembly is at least 25% of the drag on the structure and thrust produced by the at least one turbine.

    • An adjustment device for obtaining the maximum efficiency for water turbines having adjustable runner blades and guide rails and test probes provided in the draft tube after the turbine. The purpose of the present invention is to provide an adjusting device having a very simple design, a very high sensibility and which can distinguish inclined flow against the measuring position or the transmitter from rotation. These tasks have been solved in that the test probes (16) are provided in pairs at some distance from each other and substantially radially from the centre axis (22) of the draft tube (15) and mainly at the same level, that the test probes (16) are disc-formed with mainly symmetrical wing profile and on each flat side being equipped with at least one measurement spot (17a, 17b), that the measurement spots (17a, 17b) belonging to each probe are connected to one side each of a pressure difference transmitter (19, 20), and that the pressure difference transmitters (19, 20) are arranged to emit signals, which are proportional to the horizontal speed component of the recorded rotational speed of the water and which signals are used for adjusting the pitch of the guide rails.

    • Apparatus is provided for use in power generation, including a fluid-flow-driven power generator for use in a fluid-containing pipe such as a drill pipe as used in oil and gas exploration and extraction. Parts of the generator (220,254) are adapted to be removable from the pipe - for example while a drill pipe is downhole within a drilling well - to leave a clear through bore for survey and fishing operations and to enable replacement of the removed parts. The removable part may be a flow control assembly (490), which includes an adjustable flow control nozzle (500) or which receives any one of a set of different size nozzles. The flow-driven generator comprises an impeller (220) connected to a magnet assembly (254) to rotate the magnet assembly when fluid flows past the impeller. This causes relative movement between the magnet assembly (254) and an adjacent electrical coil assembly (254), the relative movement and magnetic coupling generating an electrical current in the coil assembly. This generated electrical current is used to power electrical devices within the pipe.
