    • The invention pertains to a method for manufacturing a FRC/FRP-component component from rovings by means of a moulding tool with a mould surface, featuring the steps of: applying rovings formed of dry fibers onto the mould surface by depositing the rovings under tension with predetermined orientations between deflection devices by means of an application device, applying binder material onto the tensioned rovings; consolidating the arrangement of fiber strands and binder material by applying heat and pressure in order to produce a preform for the component to be manufactured; separating the preform from the deflection devices and removing the preform from the moulding tool; and carrying out an injection process or infusion process in order to manufacture the component after separating the preform from the deflection devices; as well as to a moulding tool and a device for implementing the method.

    • A method of manufacturing a vehicle front frame includes wrapping a pre-preg around a mandrel and curing the pre-preg to form an upright tube. Secondly, winding two pre-pregs into two elongated tubes and connecting a middle portion of each of the two elongated tubes with an end of the upright tube. Then placing the upright tube and the two elongated tubes into a die. Inflating the two elongated tubes to make the two elongated tubes abut on the inner wall of the die, and curing the two elongated tubes to form a front fork that joins the upright tube. The manufacturing method has a simple operating process. In addition, the product made by the method has improved mechanical strength.

    • A composite structure comprises at least one ply comprising approximately parallel unidirected twines comprising helically-configured matrix-impregnated continuous strands of filament reinforcements to provide a flanged composite cantilever spring which serves as the principal constituent of a coupling structure. An interior ply of a coupling structure body member comprises unidirected longitudinal twines configured at a body member extremity to provide a flange member connected to a cantilever spring. An exterior ply is disposed transversely of and superimposed upon the interior ply to provide the cantilever spring hinge line. The composite cantilever spring can be constructed to deflect about either a straight or curved hinge line. A preferred tubular form of the coupling structure comprises at least one end configured as a polygonal array of flanged cantilever springs which serve as the socket end of a spring-lock coupling used to connect mating flanged spigot-end structures. A preferred segmented form of coupling structure comprises two semi-circular flanged cantilever spring members assembled and deflected by an encircling retaining sleeve.The method and apparatus for making a composite in the form of a preferred coupling structure comprises placing first ply loops of longitudinal twines upon a pin-ended forming surface, transversely placing a second ply of twines upon the first ply twines to deflect them into flange-forming cavities, hardening the twine-impregnating matrix, removing and slotting the flanged spring members to provide the desired coupling structure.

    • A reinforcing cord is positioned in a mold cavity for reinforcing an annular article such as a tire by wrapping the cord on an annular spacer band which is supported on a mold core and then placed in the mold. The mold is charged with a liquid polyurethane reaction mixture to form an outer polymeric ring of the annular article which is adhered to the cord and partially cured. The spacer band is removed, the mold closed and charged with additional liquid polyurethane reaction mixture to form an inner polymeric ring of the annular article adjacent the reinforcing cord carried by the outer ring. The partially cured outer ring and the inner ring are then cured to adhere the inner ring to the outer ring with the layer of reinforcing cord encapsulated between the rings. An additional layer of reinforcing cord may be positioned in the article by wrapping another cord around a second spacer band having a smaller diameter than the first spacer band. The second spacer band is placed in a mold and defines a cavity between the spacer band and the outer ring. The mold is then charged with additional liquid reaction mixture to form the second polymeric ring and encapsulate the cord on the second spacer ring and partially cure the second ring for adherence to the first ring. The second spacer band is then removed and the mold charged with additional liquid reaction mixture to form the radially innermost third polymeric ring. The reaction mixture of the second and third rings are then cured to provide adherence between the adjacent rings.
