摘要： Various aspects of the present invention provide an apparatus and a method of removing an orthopedic implant from a patient. In one embodiment, the method includes cycling the temperature of at least a portion of the orthopedic implant between a first temperature and a second temperature that differs from the first temperature. In one embodiment, the first temperature is above 0°C and the second temperature is below 0°C. The temperature cycling causes a thermal expansion differential between at least a portion of the orthopedic implant and material in a region contacting the orthopedic implant. In one embodiment, the thermal expansion differential is of an extent sufficient to cause physical separation of at least a portion of the surface of the orthopedic implant from material contacting the surface of the orthopedic implant.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid the drawbacks of known acetabular cup prosthesis setting instruments.SOLUTION: A cup (1) and a temporary insert (2) are respectively configured to be tightly press fitted into each other along their periphery (7a). The temporary insert (2) includes a through-hole (10) communicating outside with a free space between the outer surface of the temporary insert (2) and the inner surface of the cup (1). The through-hole (10) can be engaged with the threaded end of an impactor, for manipulating the cup (1) when it is being set. A syringe can be engaged, enabling a liquid under pressure to be injected into the free space (9), thus separating the temporary insert (2) from the cup (1) without any risk of damaging the inner surface of the cup (1). Thus, the cup can be securely manipulated when it is being set without any risk of damaging the inner surface of the cup (1).
