    • PURPOSE:To provide a cooling device for an air intake control type engine which is designed to prevent the occurrence of defective operation owing to the thermal strain of an intake air control valve. CONSTITUTION:An air intake control type engine is formed in such a way that an intake air passage having an intake air valve opening led out to the outer wall of a cylinder head is provided and intake air control valve 21 formed of a round rod body to control the sectional area of the intake air passage is disposed in the axial direction of a cam shaft to the bottom wall part, on the side, mating with a cylinder block, of the intake air passage. In this type of engine, a cooling device is formed in such a way that a cooling jacket 31 for the air intake control valve is arranged in a manner to surround at least the part on the combustion chamber side of the intake air control valve 21 therewith. In this case, the cooling jacket 31 is designed to comprise an upper jacket part 31c formed on a cylinder head 4, a lower jacket part 31a formed on a cylinder block 3, and an intercommunicating part 31b for intercommunicating the lower and upper jacket parts 31c and 31a.

    • PURPOSE:To see that the structure does not get complicated even if the number of valves increases by obviating the changeover between the coupling and the noncoupling between fellow swing arms. CONSTITUTION:A cam nose 15b for high speed and a cam nose 15a for middle speed lower in nose height are made on one cam shaft 15, and swing arms 32 and 31 for high speed and low and middle speed being driven by the cam nose 15b and 15a, respectively, are provided. The base part of this swing arm 32 for high speed is supported with a supporting mechanism 33 capable of being changed over into supporting condition and nonsupporting condition, and the top of the swing arm 31 for low and middle speed is pressed with the top of the swing arm 32 for high speed, whereby both sides are coupled. When the supporting mechanism 33 is in supporting condition, a valve 11 is driven to open or close through the swing arm 32 for high speed, and in nonsupporting condition, the valve 11 is driven to open or close through a swing arm 21 for low and middle speed by the cam nose 15a for low and middle speed.

    • PURPOSE:To decrease the discharge of NOx in full through a slight exhaust gas recirculation value as well as to stabilize a driving run at time of medium- high load driving by conducting a part of exhaust gas to an injector under the specified driving conditions, and spraying this exhaust gas to a combustion chamber together with air and fuel. CONSTITUTION:When a piston goes up and a scavenging stroke is over, an injector 48 opens and a mixture of air and fuel is sprayed into a combustion chamber 50. When the piston 16 is reached to a specified timing advance position short of a top dead center, this mixture is ignited by a spark plug 46, and the piston 16 goes down, and when an exhaust port is opened, exhaust is started. A mixture 60 feeds the injector 48 with air alone at time of low load, but if load grows larger, it mixes air and the exhaust gas together, feeding it to the injector 48. In brief, exhaust gas recirculation takes place at medium load. Therefore, a combustion temperature at this medium load is lowered, thus the discharge of NOx is reduced.
