    • Providing an objective lens capable of achieving reliable centering during formation, allowing high-precision formation, and improving durability of a manufacturing apparatus, and providing an optical pickup apparatus and an optical disk apparatus using that objective lens. According to the present invention, an objective lens is formed so as to satisfy condition 0.3≦Z/D≦0.5, where Z is a sag amount equivalent to a length of a convexly curved optical surface along an optical axis, and D is an optically effective diameter equivalent to a length which is optically effective for the optical surface and is orthogonal to the optical axis. It is possible to reliably perform centering during fabrication of the objective lens and allow high-precision formation for decreasing the lens aberration.

    • A phase error signal indicating a most recent phase difference between an input clock signal and a feed-back signal is produced in a phase comparing unit. Also, the phase difference of the phase error signal is monitored in an abnormal condition detecting unit. When the phase difference is higher than a threshold value, the abnormal condition detecting unit judges that the input clock signal is set in an abnormal condition, and a frequency-controlled clock signal is produced in the voltage controlled oscillator according to the phase error signal. Therefore, the oscillation clock signal can be output without changing a phase of the oscillation clock signal while suppressing wonders or jitters.

    • A printing method is provided for use with a printer which reads and then outputs to a printer head a fixed number of bits at a time so as to permit the printer to use a printer head having a number of nozzles which is different than the fixed number of bits. According to this technique, bit data corresponding to an image band to be printed is obtained, the band including multiple pixel arrays, the pixels in each pixel array being arranged in a manner similar to the nozzles in a printer head. In a first loading step, bit data for m pixels of an i-th pixel array are loaded into a register in the printer head, m being a predetermined integer, and i being an arbitrary integer. In a second loading step, bit data for n pixels of an (i+1)-th pixel array are loaded into the register in the printer head, n being a predetermined integer. Finally, the printer head is caused to print an array of dots based on the contents of a register which includes the bit data loaded pursuant to the first and second loading steps, the printed array of dots corresponding to the i-th pixel array.

    • There is provided a printer comprises a first type group having a first font; a second type group having a second font; a first read only memory in which a space traveling amount corresponding to each type of the first type group has been stored; a second read only memory in which a space traveling amount corresponding to each type of the second type group has been stored; and a microprocessor which selects the 1st read only memory when the 1st type group is used, thereby allowing the propotional spacing operation corresponding to each type of the 1st type group to be performed, and which selects the 2nd read only memory when the 2nd type group is used, thereby allowing the proportional spacing operation corresponding to each type of the 2nd type group to be performed. Since the invention can be constituted by a simple hardware, by merely adding this hardware to a conventional printer such as an electronic typewriter, the fine proportional spacing can be executed for each type of various kinds of fonts.
