As a result, a moving amount of an exchanging tool at a tool exchanging time in which a tool to be exchanged, mounted to the tool holding part of a precision machine body, is exchanged from a given tool 14 in each of tool containing parts 15... in a tool magazine 13 can be sharply reduced as compared with that of a conventional device, and the working efficiency of a tool exchange work can be improved. Since a conventional conveying mechanism to move a tool exchange arm for a comparatively long distance can be eliminated, the size of a whole automatic tool exchange device can be reduced, and even if a precision machine is small, it can be easily mounted.

    • PURPOSE:To improve the working efficiency by taking out a tool from a tool storage board in the vicinity of a tool rest and mounting said tool onto the tool mounting part of the tool rest and automatically setting the tool after use onto the tool storage board, in an automatic tool replacing apparatus for NC lathe, etc. CONSTITUTION:A chuck 5 for mounting a workpiece 4 is installed onto a headstock 2 of an NC lathe, and a tool storage board 6 is installed in the vicinity of a tool rest 3. In other words, a rectangular tool rest body 8 which is turnable around the axis center of a main shaft is installed onto the tool rest 3, and the main shaft is supported by a driving mechanism which is shiftable in the X- and Y-axis directions. A tool installation part 10 is formed onto each surface of the tool rest body 8. While, the tool storage board 6 consists of a rotary table 13, and a tool holder 14 for supporting the tool (a) one by one is arranged on the outer peripheral edge of the table 13. In other words, a tool is mounted onto the tool installation part 10 from the tool holder 14 by relatively shifting the tool rest 3 and the tool loading board 6, and the tool after use is set onto the holder 14.

In this case, backlash between the outer periphery thread 11 of the cartridge 6 and the inner periphery thread 10 of a scale ring 4 is removed due to a spring 26 enclosed in a holding bore 22.
