    • PURPOSE:To provide a device which can effectively cool a steel strip of a relatively low temp. without providing rubbing grazes to the surface and with easy temp. control by supporting afloat the approximately horizontally traveling steel strip with the fluid pressure of cooling water. CONSTITUTION:Floaters 2 are successively provided at proper intervals along the traveling direction of the steel strip 1 which is subjected to annealing, holding, quick cooling and overaging treatments in a continuous annealing furnace and is then drawn out of the furnace after cooling to about 250-200 deg.C so as to face the bottom surface of the steel strip. Slit nozzles 4 opened to incline respectively inward are provided at both ends in the longitudinal direction on the top surface of headers 3 constituting the bodies of the floaters 2 and baffle plates 5 are juxtaposed with the top surface the headers 3. Pressure water is supplied from supply pipes 6 to the headers 3. The steel strip 1 is going to sag by the own weight but the jets of the cooling water ejected in the crossing directions from the nozzles 4, 4 are forced between the top surfaces of the headers 3 and the bottom surface of the steel strip 1 and the static pressure of the fluid is generated therebetween. As a result, the steel strip 1 is supported afloat and is effectively cooled.

    • PURPOSE:To decrease the excessive thrust force acting on work rolls by providing power transmission devices which permit the movement of the work rolls in their axial direction in place of thrust bearing devices for the work rolls of a roll cross rolling mill. CONSTITUTION:A paired cross system is made into the construction wherein the thrusts of upper and lower work rolls 1, 2 are not supported. Power transmission devices 5, 6 which transmit torque and are adjustable in length, for example, splined shafts which absorb the axial movement of the work rolls, are provided. The upper work roll 1 and a backup roll 3 as well as the lower work roll 2 and a backup roll 4 are held in the positions where the axial centers are in parallel with each other and in this state the axial centers of the upper and lower paired rolls are crossed within the horizontal plane, and a plate material is rolled with such rolls. If relative slips are to arise in the axial direction between the work rolls and the plate, the rolls 1, 2 move axially so as not to apply any relative slip on the plate W.
