    • An endoscopic needle device includes an inner fluid conduit, an outer sheath extending over the length of the conduit, a longitudinally stiff wire extending through the conduit, and a needle fixedly attached to the distal end of the conduit. The distal end of the wire is coupled to one or both of the needle and the distal end of the conduit. The needle includes a proximal opening such that the hollow of the needle is in fluid communication with a lumen of conduit. A proximal handle includes a stationary member and a movable member longitudinally movable relative to the stationary member. The proximal end of the outer sheath is coupled to the stationary member, and the stationary member includes structure to mount the handle to a port of an endoscope. The movable member includes a passageway, and the proximal end of the conduit is coupled to the distal end of the movable member, and a port is provided at the proximal end of the movable member. A syringe may be coupled to the port and operated to inject a fluid which travels through the passageway, the lumen of the conduit, and the needle. In addition, the proximal end of the wire is coupled to the movable member. The handle assembly also includes a knob rotatably coupled to the stationary member, wherein rotation of the knob results in reciprocal movement of the movable member relative to the stationary, and consequently the needle relative to the distal end of the outer sheath.

    • A vacuum powered pump includes a spring biased piston or diaphragm in a vacuum chamber coupled to a source of vacuum. When vacuum is applied to the vacuum chamber, the piston or diaphragm is moved in a first direction against the spring. A delayed action valve is coupled to the vacuum chamber to allow ambient air to enter the chamber only after the piston or diaphragm has been moved a substantial distance in the first direction. When the delayed action valve opens, air enters the vacuum chamber and the force of the entering air together with the bias of the spring propels the piston or diaphragm in a second direction opposite the first direction. The delayed action valve automatically closes and the process repeats so long as a vacuum source is coupled to the vacuum chamber. The reciprocal movement of the piston or diaphragm effects a pulsatile pumping of fluid through a fluid chamber having at least one check valve.

    • The method for resolving atherosclerotic plaque buildup and/or eroding unwanted tissue in a blood vessel includes the steps of: inserting an electrode in and along the lumen of a blood vessel; manually manipulating said electrode through the blood vessel; positioning said electrode proximate to atherosclerotic plaque buildup site or unwanted tissue site in the blood vessel; supplying a predetermined high-frequency, high-voltage electrical current to said electrode; maintaining said predetermined current for a predetermined time period; and sensing from time to time, the amount of plaque or unwanted tissue at the site.The electrosurgical plaque-resolving or tissue-eroding device is adapted to be inserted within and along the lumen of a blood vessel and manipulated therethrough to a desired position where the device is operated to resolve atherosclerotic plaque buildup or erode tissue in the blood vessel according to the method to re-establish desired blood flow through the blood vessel or to remove tissue therefrom. The device comprises an elongate flexible hollow tubular body having a distal end and a proximal end. A hollow tip member is mounted at the distal end of the flexible hollow tubular body and an electrode is associated with the hollow tip member for resolving plaque or eroding tissue. A power supply circuit for supplying a high-frequency, high-voltage electrical current to the electrode is coupled to the electrode. A mechanism for sensing, from time to time, the amount of plaque or tissue at the site in the blood vessel is also provided with the device.

    • A cordless cautery and cutting surgical device includes a modular battery and a surgical handle operable to removably hold the battery thereto. The handle has a cordless radio-frequency-signal-generation assembly and a surgical bipolar end effector having jaws and a cutting blade therebetween. The signal-generation assembly selectively supplies radio-frequency signal to the end effector when powered for electrocautery of tissue between the jaws. The handle defines therein an aseptically sealable battery-holding compartment selectively exposed to the environment and removably holding therein the battery. A motor assembly is disposed in the handle and is electrically connected to the battery and/or the signal-generation assembly and is powered and controlled thereby. The motor assembly physically couples to the blade and/or at least one jaw for moving the blade/jaw(s). The second connector part electrically connects the battery to the signal-generation assembly and/or the motor assembly when the battery is removably disposed in the compartment.
