    • An engine powered machine is provided with a high-performance exhaust gas purification system and is capable of promptly raising a temperature of an operator's cab to a comfortable temperature. The exhaust gas purification system that makes use of an NOx removal catalyst and a reducing agent is provided with a reducing agent heater for heating a reducing agent, which is stored in a reducing agent tank, with heat of an engine cooling medium and an on/off device for controlling an introduction of the engine cooling medium into the reducing agent heater. When a temperature of the engine cooling medium is higher than a first predetermined temperature, a temperature of the reducing agent in the tank is lower than a second predetermined temperature and a temperature in an operator's cab is lower than a third predetermined temperature, a controller switches the on/off device into a closed state to increase a flow rate of the engine cooling medium to be guided to a heat exchanger of a heating apparatus.

    • To provide a steering system for a construction vehicle, which is suited not only for traveling on general roadways but also for work at construction sites and can perform high-reliability steering control.A steering system for a construction vehicle is provided with a directional control valve 5 for controlling a flow of pressure oil to body-articulating hydraulic cylinders 2 that perform steering and also with a steering-wheel-operated signal generation means 6 for outputting by operation of a steering wheel 7a a pilot signal to the directional control valve 5 for switching the valve 5. The steering system is also provided with a lever-operated signal generation means for producing by operation of a lever 10a a pilot signal to switch the directional control valve 5, said lever-operated signal generation means including pressure-proportional solenoid valves 12a,12b or the like, selector valves 13a,13b switchable to permit selectively outputting the pilot signal from one of the signal generation means to the directional control valve 5, and an automated switching means for switching the selector valves 13a,13b such that upon operation of the steering wheel 7a, the pilot signal from the steering-wheel-operated signal generation means 6 can be preferentially outputted to the directional control valve 5.

    • A novel method is provided to assay at least one nucleic acid. According to this method, a nucleic acid polymerization reaction is conducted in a nucleic acid polymerization reaction system, which contains (A) the at least one nucleic acid as a template, (B) at least one nucleotide monomer labeled with at least one label selected from the group consisting of (a) fluorescent dyes, (b) quenchers and (c) immune related substances with a fluorescent dye or quencher contained therein, and (C) at least one nucleic acid-synthesizing enzyme. The template nucleic acid or a nucleic acid, which has been synthesized using the template nucleic acid as a template, is then assayed from a change or an amount of a change in an optical character of the nucleic acid polymerization system. This method makes it possible to specifically and accurately assay at least one nucleic acid, which is contained in a single system and can be an unknown nucleic acid and/or a known nucleic acid, with excellent sensitivity, in short time and with ease.

    • In an image compressor, a color space converting unit separates an image data into a luminance data and a chrominance data. An image block-dividing unit block-divides each of the luminance and chrominance data separated by the color space converting unit into a plurality of blocks each of which includes adjacent pixels. A luminance threshold value determining unit determines a threshold value for binarizing the luminance data. A luminance binarizing unit binarizes the luminance data using the determined threshold value. A typical value forming unit forms two typical values for each of the block-divided luminance and chrominance data in accordance with the luminance data. A binarized luminance compressing unit encodes the binarized luminance data using dictionaries whose number is smaller than the number of all combinations of the luminance data.
