    • An axial piston machine comprises first and second members arranged so that one of the first and second members is swingable relative to the other to provide relative swinging motion, a plurality of pistons inserted in a plurality of cylinders formed in the second member, respectively, the pistons being mechanically engaged with the first member so that the relative swinging motion reciprocates the plurality of pistons in the cylinders, and a swinging mechanism for swinging the above-mentioned one of the first and second members relative to the other, and the axial piston machine is characterized in that the first and second members have spherical portions providing a coupling portion binding one of the first and second members to a spherical point of the other to be universally rotatable about the point, and the above-mentioned swinging mechanism comprises a relative revolving mechanism for revolving at least one of the first and second members relative to the other to provide a relative swinging motion between the first member and the second member, thereby to reciprocate the pistons.

    • A method of and an apparatus for effecting volume control suitable for use with a compressor for compressing a compressible fluid, such as a refrigerant of the refrigeration cycle, wherein a suction fluid is forcedly closed while a suction step is being performed and the fluid drawn up to then by suction into each working chamber is subjected to adiabatic expansion during the rest of the suction stroke. The fluid in the working chamber subjected to adiabatic expansion is then subjected to adiabatic compression in initial stages of a compression stroke following the suction stroke only for a period corresponding to the period of the adiabatic expansion. An on-off control valve is mounted in a fluid suction passage and operative to be brought, when it is necessary to effect volume control, to a closed position while the suction stroke is being performed, to thereby interrupt the flow of the fluid through the fluid suction passage to the working chamber.

    • A moving vane type compressor has a cylinder which is made of a sintered material having a density of 6.6 to 7.6 and a composition consisting essentially of 0.6 to 0.8% of carbon, 1 to 2% of copper and the balance substantially iron. The cylinder is encased by a hermetic casing therebetween a high pressure chamber into which a refrigerant compressed by the compressor is discharged. Lubricating oil separated from the discharged refrigerant within the high pressure chamber and the lubricating oil suspended in the form of a mist by the refrigerant attach to the outer peripheral surface of the wall of the cylinder made of the sintered material. The oil attaching to the outer peripheral surface of the cylinder is forced by the refrigerant pressure acting thereon into the pores of the sintered material such as to block these pores, thus preventing the compressed gas in the cylinder from leaking outside through the pores.

    • A vane-type rotary machine for use as a compressor, pump or the like. The rotary machine has a cam ring with an inner peripheral contour expressed by an epitrochoid-like curve having at least one lobe, a cylindrical rotor having a plurality of vane grooves and contacting the inner peripheral surface of the cam ring, and vanes slidably received by the vane grooves and adapted to slide on the inner peripheral surface of the cam ring as the rotor rotates. The inner peripheral contour of the cam ring is corrected or modified in accordance with the amount of offset of the vanes in such a manner as to suppress the lateral reactional force applied to the vanes thereby to reduce the friction loss during sliding of the vanes in respective vane grooves, while making the sliding movement of the vanes approach a movement in accordance with a sine wave curve, thereby to diminish noise, thermal loss and mechanical damage which are attributable to irregularity of movement of the vanes.
