    • A method and apparatus for transferring data from a host to a node through a fabric connecting the host to the node. A chip architecture is provided in which a protocol engine provides for on ship processing in transferring data such that frequent interrupts from various components within the chip may be processed without intervention from the host processor. Additionally, context managers are provided to transmit and receive data. The protocol engine creates a list of transmit activities, which is traversed by the context managers, which in turn execute the listed activity in a fashion independent from the protocol engine. In receiving data, the context managers provide a mechanism to process frames of data originating from various sources without requiring intervention from the protocol engine. When receiving data, the context managers are able to process frames from different sources, which arrive out of order. Additionally, the context managers also determine when all frames within a sequence have been received. A link control unit is provided in which loop management is provided when the host is connected to a loop. Management of the loop includes implementing mechanisms to initiate acquisition of the loop and initiate a release of the loop in response to conditions in which data is received and transmitted by the host and by other nodes on the loop.

The defibrillating pulse is provided after a predetermined number of consecutive R waves are non-coincidently sensed to assure reliable synchronization. The atrial defibrillator is also operational in a marker mode wherein a number of synchronization marker pulses are delivered to the heart for detection on an externally generated electrocardiogram. The atrial fibrillation detector of the defibrillator is normally disabled and is activated when the sensed ventricular activity indicates a probability of atrial fibrillation to conserve a depletable power source. An endocardial lead is also described which ensures that the delivered atrial defibrillating electrical energy is substantially confined to the atria of the heart.

    • A device for cutting animal intestines into predetemined length for use as sausage casings comprises a pair of upstanding L-shaped mounting plates between which a circular shaped knife is secured. The top edge of the mounting plates is formed with a groove through which the knife cutting edge extends. In use, intestinal tissue is squarely cut by throwing a length thereof onto a central top edge of the mounting plates for movement in the direction of the groove. The intestine enters the groove and descends to a point where the cutting edge intersects one of the groove walls at an acute angle where cutting occurs. This groove wall is bevelled with respect to the knife to slice the casing material quickly in a square cut. Fresh cutting edges may be exposed in the groove by rotating the knife when necessary.
