    • The present invention relates to a device and a method for monitoring parameter selection during the operation of a technical device, in particular an imaging diagnostic device. The device comprises an input interface (1) for a parameter selected by an operator of the technical device, a comparator (2) which compares the selected parameters with the standard parameters, and an output device (3) which, in the event of a deviation of the selected parameters by a predefinable minimum degree from the closest standard parameters, outputs information regarding the deviation for display on a display unit (4) and/or outputs the closest standard parameters for adjustment of the technical device. Improved results are achieved with the present device and the associated method during operation of the technical device.

    • A mass storage system having at least one input/output controllers in connection with a host computer is disclosed. The mass storage system also includes mirrored storage devices in connection with the input/output controllers through a global cache memory. Each mirrored pair of storage devices is assigned a common logical volume address, but is looked upon by the host computer as a single entity. The cache memory includes dynamically allocable cache slots, which correspond to each common logical volume address. When the host wishes to write data to a pair of mirrored storage devices, the contents of first write operation are written into the appropriate cache slot. However, when a second write operation is received by the input/output controllers, a determination is made as to whether the contents of the second write operation are already in the cache memory. If the contents are in the cache memory, a second write operation is not effectuated, thus improving system performance, but maintaining reliability in the system.

    • A system for transporting parallel digital data in which the parallel digital data is converted to serial digital data, transported as serial digital data, and then reconverted back to parallel digital data. Each parallel digital word to be transported is stepped into a parallel to series shift register which has associated with it a separate digital code to identify the particular digital word. The data in the shift registers is serially stepped out, one shift register at a time, and then transported as serial data to a plurality of series to parallel shift registers. Each series to parallel shift register has associated with it a particular digital code associated with a particular digital word. Each shift register receives the serially transported data, and if the digital code of the shift register matches the digital code of the received word, the data in that particular shift register is stepped out as a parallel digital word.

    • In a liquid dispensing apparatus, a train of control pulses are produced at a rate representative of equal fractional parts of a unit volume of the liquid being dispensed, and for each of these control pulses a divider gates to an output circuit a number of pulses (derived from a continuously-operating generator) digitally equal to the price per unit volume of the liquid being dispensed. The gated pulses appearing in said output circuit are counted in continuous fashion by a counter which, during a sustained operation, produces a resultant output pulse at the conclusion of every one thousand pulses fed to its input. These latter output pulses are fed to decade counters which drive the final display devices for exhibit or indication of the total price.
