CONSTITUTION: An outdoor unit comprises an outdoor unit casing formed as a rectangular parallelepiped with one side facing the outside opened and the other sides closed, and having an inside divided into a suction part and a discharge part; a compressor installed in the outdoor unit casing, and compressing refrigerant vapor supplied by an indoor unit through a tube; an air-cooled condenser installed in the outdoor unit casing, and condensing refrigerant vapor supplied from the compressor; and an axial flow fan unit including an axial flow fan(70), an axial flow fan motor(72) placed on a side opposite to the suction part with respect to the axial flow fan, and a motor housing(74) covering the axial flow fan motor to seal and expanded from a part thereof neighboring the axial flow fan in a direction opposite to the suction part with fixed curvature. A cylindrical orifice(76) is installed between the axial flow fan and the suction part to guide air having exchanged heat from the suction part to the axial flow fan. The axial flow fan is installed by a supporting unit coupled to a discharge casing. A flange is formed on an end of the motor housing opposite to the axial flow fan to couple the motor housing.

A zero voltage detector(65) detects a zero point of an input AC power supply. A supply voltage frequency judgment section(70) measures a time between zero points detected by the zero voltage detector(65) and judges whether an input supply voltage is 50Hz or 60Hz. A voltage level detector(67) detects a voltage across the smoothing capacitor(63). A ROM(66) stores data with respect to a sine wave. A controller(68) reads a sine wave data from ROM(66) and control a period of the pulse according to a frequency judged by supply voltage frequency judgment section(70). A driver(69) controls an on/off operation of the switching element(Q1) according to the period of the pulse from the controller(68).
