    • A catheter is provided for placement within a body lumen, the catheter including a flexible conduit that is elongated along a longitudinal axis, the flexible conduit having a proximal end and a distal end. The catheter further includes at least one delivery waveguide and at least one collection waveguide positioned along the flexible conduit, the at least one delivery waveguide and the at least one collection waveguide constructed and arranged to transmit radiation at a wavelength in a range of about 250 to 2500 nanometers. The catheter further includes a flexible, expandable first surface encircling surrounding a segment of the conduit, a transmission output of the at least one delivery waveguide and a transmission input of the at least one collection waveguide located within the flexible, expandable first surface, and the distal end of at least one of the at least one delivery waveguide and the at least one collection waveguide tethered to the flexible, expandable first surface radially translatable with respect to the flexible, expandable first surface, the at least one transmission input located between a portion of the flexible, expandable first surface and a portion of the second surface.

    • A catheter based optical system for generating data as to the condition of a tissue sample of a mammalian vessel. The system includes an elongated catheter shaft having a tissue engaging distal end and a coupled proximal end and an elongated optical delivery fiber arrangement disposed through a lumen of said catheter, said optical delivery fiber arrangement having a distal end and a proximal end. The distal end of the delivery fiber arrangement has a re-director light emitter thereon for directing light against mammalian tissues. An elongated optical collection fiber arrangement is disposed through a lumen of the catheter, the optical collection fiber arrangement having distal end and a proximal most end. The distal end of the collection fiber arrangement has a re-director light receiver thereon for receiving light reflected from the mammalian tissue by the light emitter. The light emitter and the light receiver are longitudinally space apart from one another in the distal end of the catheter. The catheter apparatus includes a light source in communication with the delivery fiber and a signal detector in communication with the receiving fiber for receiving and presenting data collected.

    • A method of etching a recess in a semiconductor substrate is described. The method may include forming a dielectric liner layer in a trench of the substrate where the liner layer has a first density. The method may also include depositing a second dielectric layer at least partially in the trench on the liner layer. The second dielectric layer may initially be flowable following the deposition, and have a second density that is less than the first density of the liner. The method may further include exposing the substrate to a dry etchant, where the etchant removes a portion of the first liner layer and the second dielectric layer to form a recess, where the dry etchant includes a fluorine-containing compound and molecular hydrogen, and where the etch rate ratio for removing the first dielectric liner layer to removing the second dielectric layer is about 1:1.2 to about 1:1.
