    • A method of transmitting a control channel format indicator (CCFI), also known as PCFICH (Physical Control Format Indicator Channel), in case where the length of a coded CCFI is not an integer multiple of three, including mapping a plurality of two-bit CCFI into a codebook with each component codeword having three bits; generating a sequence of codewords selected from the codebook by repeating the selected component codeword for predetermined times; generating a codeword by concatenating the sequence of the selected component codewords with the original CCFI bits; and transmitting the codeword carrying information of CCFI. The method further includes a step of generating a permutation of each of the four codewords by assigning K repetitions of the three-bit component codeword to the number of K resource units respectively and mapping remaining K bits of each of the four codewords separately to the number of K resource units.

    • In a wireless network that operates according to the Long-Term Evolution Advanced standard, a mobile station determines a number of resource elements to be used for HARQ-ACK (hybrid automatic-repeat-request acknowledgement information) or RI (rank indication) on a MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) PUSCH (physical uplink shared channel). In an embodiment, the mobile station determines a number O of bits in a payload for HARQ-ACK or RI. When the payload O is within a first range, the mobile station determines a minimum number Qmin of resource elements to be used according to a first equation. When the payload O is within a second range, the mobile station determines the minimum number Qmin of resource elements to be used according to a second equation. The mobile station then determines the number Q′ of resource elements according to Qmin and a third equation.

    • The invention concerns methods and apparatus for performing channel equalization in a direct-sequence spread spectrum communications system. The methods and apparatus of the present invention are particularly applicable in situations where communication occurs over a channel experiencing multipath interference associated with paths having significantly different lengths. The impulse response-delay profile of such a channel is typically sparse, that is, dominated by a relatively few and widely spaced taps or clusters of closely spaced taps. In one aspect, equalization filter coefficients are calculated based on a channel estimate derived from a single cluster of closely-spaced channel taps collectively having the greatest percentage of energy as indicated by the impulse response-delay profile. In another aspect, equalization filter coefficients are calculated for each of two clusters of closely-spaced channel taps, where the two clusters of closely-spaced channel taps are separated by a delay spread indicative of a sparse channel. In a further aspect where channel equalization coefficients are calculated for each of two clusters of closely-spaced channel taps, the equalization coefficients are jointly optimized during the calculation process.
