摘要： Embodiments of the present invention provide a GMPLS fast re-route of packets within a network using a multicast address and a table comprising a list of alias IP addresses. According to various embodiments of the invention an alternate data path from a source node to a destination node allows a packet to traverse to the destination node without IP forwarding techniques being applied. In other words, a tunneling effect from a source node to a destination node allows other nodes in the network to ignore the packet and only read the multicast address within the header and immediately forward the packet to the destination node. A predetermined set of IP addresses are determined from network topology including all potential paths, for a packet to traverse, to a destination address.

摘要： A periodic optical filter for interleaving a plurality of optical signals to provide a multiplexed signal for transmission over an optical fiber is disclosed. The periodic optical filter includes a first optical filter constructed to receive at least two optical signals through an input port to provide at least one filtered optical signal. The periodic optical filter also includes a second optical filter, in communication with the first optical filter, constructed to receive the filtered optical signal from the first optical filter through an intermediate port to provide a multiplexed signal for transmission through an output port. At least one of the optical filters includes an infinite-impulse response filter and at least one of the optical filters includes a finite-impulse response filter. Methods of fabrication and methods of use including the periodic optical filter are disclosed.

摘要： A transmissive active channel element is provided in each signal channel of a monolithic multi-channel TxPIC where each channel also includes a modulated source. The active channel element functions both as a power control element for both monitoring and regulating the output channel signal level of each signal channel and as a modulator for channel wavelength tagging or labeling to provide for wavelength locking the modulated sources. The power regulating function is also employed to control the channel signal power outputs of each channel to be uniform across the channel signal array. All of these functions are carried out by a feedback loop utilizing digital signal processing.

摘要： A coolerless photonic integrated circuit (PIC), such as a semiconductor electro-absorption modulator/laser (EML) or a coolerless optical transmitter photonic integrated circuit (TxPIC), may be operated over a wide temperature range at temperatures higher then room temperature without the need for ambient cooling or hermetic packaging. Since there is large scale integration of N optical transmission signal WDM channels on a TxPIC chip, a new DWDM system approach with novel sensing schemes and adaptive algorithms provides intelligent control of the PIC to optimize its performance and to allow optical transmitter and receiver modules in DWDM systems to operate uncooled. Moreover, the wavelength grid of the on-chip channel laser sources may thermally float within a WDM wavelength band where the individual emission wavelengths of the laser sources are not fired to wavelength peaks along a standardized wavelength grid but rather may move about with changes in ambient temperature. However, control is maintained such that the channel spectral spacing between channels across multiple signal channels, whether such spacing is periodic or aperiodic, between adjacent laser sources in the thermally floating wavelength grid are maintained in a firmed relationship. Means are then provided at an optical receiver to discover and lock onto floating wavelength grid of transmitted WDM signals and thereafter demultiplex the transmitted WDM signals for OE conversion.

摘要： A photonic integrated circuits (PICs), also referred to as opto-electronic integrated circuits (OEICs), and more particularly to a PIC in the form of an optical receiver PIC or RxPIC for use in an optical transport networks. Also, an optical transmitter PIC (TxPIC) is also disclosed in conjunction with an RxPIC in an optical transport network. The chip is cast from an InP wafer and is made from Group III-V elemental materials in the InGaAsP/InP regime with fabrication accomplished through selective metalorganic vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE) or also known as metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). Integrated on the chip, starting at the input end which is coupled to receive multiplexed optical data signals from an optical transport network is an optical amplifier, an optical demultiplexer, and a plurality of on-chip photodiodes (PDs) each to receive a demultiplexed data signal from the AWG DEMUX for optical-to-electrical signal conversion. The optical input amplifier may be an onchip gain clamped semiconductor optical amplifier (GC-SOA) or an off-chip fiber amplifier. The optical input amplifier may be optional if the channel signal demultiplexer provides for minimal insertion loss which is optimum with a properly designed arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) demultiplexer.
