    • 15,546. Davis, G., and Brown, W. July 22. Spring wheels; disk wheels ; tyres, pneumatic &e. spokes ; hubs; felloes or rims.-R e l a t e s to wheels of the kind in which spokes, hub, and rim are divided transversely to the axle to facilitate dismounting the tyre. The two hub parts are formed with ordinary clutch members a, Fig. 2. The rim parts R, Fig. 4, are connected to the hub by disks d only, by spokes b only, or by disks strengthened by spoke-like parts, each of which is formed inside with radial undercut projections r, Figs. 2 and 3. The parts are put together with the tyre interposed, turned somewhat, and fixed by bolts passed through the rim. The pneumatic tyre, Fig. 10, is formed along the inside of one edge of the cover with a flap (not shown) adapted to lie against the adjacent edge and so prevent nipping of the air tube. At points along the edges, projections b are attached by pins c and adapted to engage recesses M, Fig. 4, in the rim. The tyre may be used without an outer rim, but as shown in Fig. 2 a rim f is used which, in the modification for twin tyres shown in Fig. 5, may be formed with a web passing between the rim parts. The underside of the outer rim is formed at its edges with angular clutch-like projections, which engage by a turning movement with similar recesses in the flanged edges of the side plates E. The parts are then locked by bolts e and connected by inner bolts i, which pass between the spokes or through apertures in the disks. The rim is formed with flanges n, and a solid elastic tyre p may be replaced by the pneumatic tyre which is then carried by detachable members s formed similarly to the rim. In another modification for twin tyres the wheel is formed in three parts, the centre part having engaging members on both sides, so that it can be fitted between the two parts of the single form, Fig. 2.

    • 7784. Davis, G. April. 27. Electric railways and tramways with overhead supply and return conductors. Collectors.-A frame a, with trolley wheels b running on one conductor o, is provided with arms d carrying rollers n to run on the other conductor o. The arms d are attached in the upper or lower position, according to the direction of travel, so that the outgoing ones, for instance, ride over those which are returning, and a bridge-piece with downwardly-curved ends i is attached to each frame a, so that the rollers n can run over it and not lose contact. The ends i may be hinged so as to follow curves. In the form shown, the arms d are hinged, but they may be fixed in sockets on the frame a, insulation being provided between the supply and return current collectors. An upper second guide parallel to the bridge i may be provided to prevent the rollers from rising, or the bridge may be inverted and attached to the rollers n instead of the frame a. Flexible conductors, attached to the depending counterweighted arms r of the trolley, or to other parts of the trolley, connect it to the vehicle. The Provisional Specification states that the invention is applicable to self-propelled as well as to dragged trolleys, and that the trolleys may be used for supplying current to road vehicles and canal boats &c.
