    • A method to produce thin-layer lignocellulosic composites, such as wood-based doorskins, that exhibit substantial resistance to moisture is disclosed. In an embodiment, the method includes the steps of forming a mixture including a refined lignocellulosic fiber, wax, and an organic isocyanate resin. The mixture is initially pressed to form a loose mat. Subsequently, the mat is pressed between two dies at an elevated temperature and pressure to further reduce the thickness of the mat and to promote the interaction of the resin with the lignocellulosic fibers. In an embodiment, a release agent is included as part of the fiber mixture, or sprayed onto the surface of the mat. The thin-layer lignocellulosic composites of the present invention exhibit strong surface strength, high adhesiveness, and a 50% reduction in linear expansion and thickness swelling upon exposure to a high moisture environment as compared to thin-layer composites that do not include the isocyanate resin.

    • A wrist worn device includes a digital watch circuit (20) and a receiver (14) circuit which responds to coded message signals including selective call signalling and message information. An input steering circuit (34) interfaces between the watch circuit (20) and the receiver circuit (14) for normally providing control of the watch circuit by switches (18) located in the device case. The normal watch functions of the switches are permanently marked on the device case. The watch circuit (20) and the receiver (14) circuit couple to an information selector circuit (38) which normally selects the watch output for a common display (22). When coded message signals are received, the switches (18) are enabled to control the receiver circuit (14), and the received message information is selected for display. New indicia, electronically selected by the information selector circuit, are displayed on the display defining the new functions of the switches (18).

    • A communication receiver which can decode signals transmitted by radio frequency propagation. A programmable controller (36) uses instructions in a non-volatile reprogrammable memory (46) to decode and process the signals, and to output the information contained in the signals in a useable form. The controller also responds to predetermined signals by decoding and processing information for new decoding and operating instructions, and stores the data in a temporary memory (48). Logic circuitry responds to subsequent predetermined signals to enable selective reprogramming of the non-volatile reprogrammable memory by data stored in the temporary memory to alter the decoding characteristics of the receiver.
