    • PURPOSE:To reduce the sliding resistance of the power piston of a hydraulic booster. CONSTITUTION:The liquid pressure of an accumulator 68 is regularly worked on a seal ring fitted to the outer circumference of the power piston of a hydraulic booster 52. In addition to the first accumulator 68, a second accumulator 88 is provided. The liquid pressure of the first accumulator 68 is set low, and the liquid pressure of the second accumulator 88 is set high. A switching valve 94 is provided between the second accumulator 88 and the hydraulic booster 52, and an electronic control device 86 switches the switching valve 93 according to the signal from a sensor 92 for detecting vehicle deceleration. When the vehicle deceleration is small, the second accumulator 88 is interrupted from the hydraulic booster 52 to operate the hydraulic booster 52 by the first accumulator 68, and when the vehicle deceleration is raised to a prescribed value or more, the second accumulator 88 is allowed to communicate with the hydraulic booster 52.

    • A differential master cylinder includes a hollow primary piston (12) and a hollow secondary piston (13) with different diameters, which are open at least at one end and are mutually associated in telescopic manner so that the primary piston (12) slides on the secondary piston (13), which is stationary, and so that their internal cavities communicate with each other to form a single chamber (15) connected to a user device. The pistons (12, 13) also define, with internal surfaces of a bore (11) housing both pistons, at least one external annular chamber (16) cooperating with the internal chamber during an initial phase of the operation. The invention also relates to a braking system for a motor vehicle comprising the differential master cylinder and to a method of driving a user device with fluid under pressure by means of the cylinder.
