    • A hexafluoropropylene oxide oligomer of the formula: RfO[CF(CF3)CF2O]nCF(CF3)COF in which Rf is a group represented by the formula: F(CF2)m— in which m is an integer of 1 to 8, or the formula: (CF3)2CF(CF2)q— in which q is an integer of 0 to 6, and n is a number of 3 to 20 is heated and thermally decomposed in a solvent at a temperature of at least 100° C. in the presence of a compound which generates a fluoride (F−) ion to obtain mainly the dimer, trimer and tetramer of hexafluoropropylene oxide. Thus, the valuable low molecular weight oligomers of hexafluoropropylene oxide can be obtained from high molecular weight oligomers of hexafluoropropylene oxide which have been discarded.

    • A process for production of 1,3-propanediol including the steps: (a) hydrating acrolein in the presence of an acid hydration catalyst; (b) catalytically hydrogenating the reaction mixture of step (a), which reaction mixture comprises 3-hydroxypropionaldehyde and is freed of unreacted acrolein; (c) refining the reaction mixture of step (b) containing water, 1,3-propanediol and the by-products boiling higher than 1,3-propanediol; and, (d) treating 4-oxa-1,7-heptanediol to form 1,3-propanediol by (1) removing a boiler sump comprising 4-oxa-1,7-heptanediol from the refining step (c), (2) treating the boiler sump in an aqueous solution in the presence of an acid catalyst at about 200 to about 300° C. to form a solution comprising 1,3-propanediol, (3) neutralizing the solution obtained is step (2), and returning the neutralized solution from step (3) to the refining step (c).     • Ether-capped poly(oxyalkylated) alcohol surfactants having superior grease cleaning abilities and improved spotting/filming benefits are provided. The alcohol surfactants have the formula: R1O[CH2CH(R3)O]x[CH2]kCH(OH)[CH2]jOR2 wherein R1 is linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated, aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radicals having from 1 to 30 carbon atoms; R2 is linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated, aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radicals having from 6 to 30 carbon atoms; R3 is H, or a linear aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms; x is an integer having an average value from 1 to 40, wherein when x is 2 or greater R3 may be the same or different and k and j are integers having an average value of from 1 to 12; further wherein when x is 15 or greater and R3 is H and methyl, at least four of R3 are methyl, further wherein when x is 15 or greater and R3 includes H and from 1 to 3 methyl groups, then at least one R3 is ethyl, propyl or butyl, further wherein R2 can optionally be alkoxylated, wherein said alkoxy is selected from ethoxy, propoxy, butyloxy and mixtures thereof.
