    • A turret system is installed on an existing vessel such as an oil tanker. A portion of the existing structure, such as the center splice, is removed to leave an opening. A support structure is attached within the opening. The support structure includes a turret support structure. The turret structure is assembled within the turret support structure. Fluid piping is installed between the turret structure and the pipework of the vessel, including a manifold structure and a fluid swivel. The turret assembly is cladded for environmental protection. In one arrangement, the turret system is within the profile of the original vessel. In another arrangement, the turret system is external to the profile of the original vessel.

    • A load guide system for guiding a craft into a apparatus such as a boat trailer, boat hoist or the like for egress from traveling on the water, the apparatus including a pair of stationary members of a framework spaced from each other and forming thereby an opening through which the craft is driven, the load guide system include a unit pivotally mounted on each stationary member, each unit including an upright pole engageable by the craft as it moves into the opening, and a spring biased pulley and cable assembly interconnected among the spaced members and the framework for biasing the poles toward each other, the normal condition of the poles forming an opening less than the framework opening, whereby upon one pole being engaged by the bow of the craft, should the craft not being centered upon entering the opening, the unit of that pole will act in response to operation of the pulley and cable assembly to force the bow toward the opposite pole, with the unit of the opposite pole reacting similarly, the sequential actions and reactions of the poles due to extension and contraction of the spring continuing until the craft becomes centered within the apparatus and the craft continues to float into the apparatus.

    • An arrangement for suspending a Single Point Mooring Turret from its corresponding vessel, by transmitting a circumferentially uniform axial vertical load without moment through the interface of motion between the vessel and turret, by decoupling mooring system loads, inertial loads and hull deflection induced loads, from transmission across that interface. The arrangement supports the turret through a pendular suspension system which includes bogies, having one or more wheels or rollers per bogie, which roll around the circumference of the moonpool on a rail to allow the bogies to rotate in a horizontal plane which is perpendicular to the center line of the moonpool, and to decouple the bearing loads from radial hull deflection due to ovaling caused by rough seas. Radial flexure is achieved by suspending the turret from the bogie through rocker arms and chains, cables, rods or columns between the bogies and a riser support structure of the turret.

    • Disclosed is a method and apparatus for mooring that provides an alternative to the chain traditionally used in mooring installations. It provides a flexible tie member to couple vessels to permanently located anchors which simulates the action of a mooring chain, but which is more durable and where the weights used in the apparatus may be reusable. The mooring apparatus comprises or includes, a flexible or articulable elongate member having a first end and a second end, and plurality of weights each secured and spaced along the elongate member, the first end adapted to be connected to an anchor weight and the second end adapted to be connected to a buoy. The method comprises using the mooring apparatus to moor a vessel.

    • The invention is a bearing unit and bearing system for supporting a large rotatable element, such as a mooring turret. The bearing unit includes a hydrostatic suspension system which enables the bearing unit to accommodate fabrication tolerances and also enables the bearing unit to conform to relative movements between the ship and the turret, thereby providing a compliant bearing system. The system includes multiple bearing units of the invention which serve as thrust and/or radial bearings for supporting the turret. By manifolding a plurality of bearing units together in a fluidly-isolated group, the pressure applied to the bearing units in that group is self-equalizing so that all the bearing units act in unison to equally support the load, while also allowing some degree of self-alignment and tilting of the load. As a result, the bearing system emulates a self-aligning bearing system and is able to compensate for axial and angular misalignment. The system allows for monitoring of each bearing unit, automatic lubrication of the bearing surfaces, and in situ replacement of bearing liners should wear or damage occur while the system is in operation.

    • A chain table for connecting mooring legs to a turret. The chain table includes downwardly sloping connection flanges with bosses for forming holes for pivoting members of a coupler assembly. The downward slope of the flanges allows forces from connected anchor legs to be better directed to the chain table as compared to connecting flanges which extend perpendicularly from the body of the chain table. As a result, the chain table can be made smaller which allows it to be fabricated by casting techniques. An anchor leg pattern is established by connecting vessel end portions of anchor legs to the chain table while the vessel is in port, installing at a mooring site seabed portions of anchor legs according to an anchor leg pattern, and after the vessel arrives at the mooring site, connecting each vessel end portion to each corresponding seabed anchor leg portion to establish the anchor leg pattern for mooring the vessel.
