Tobacco pipes.-In a pipe in which an auxiliary bowl 16 is disposed around the bowl proper 19 to provide a sinuous path for the smoke and to collect nicotine, a tube 18 extends from the bowl 16 into a liquid-containing chamber 6 constituting the head of the pipe, and a second tube 12 extends from the stem 10 of the pipe into the chamber 6, the tubes 12, 18 being so disposed that no liquid from the chamber 6 can enter them. As shown, the auxiliary bowl 16 is flat-bottomed and substantially rectangular in cross-section, and the inner bowl 19 has smoke passages 20 in its base. The side walls 22 of the chamber 6 are indented to bring them close to or in contact with the auxiliary bowl 16 and may be corrugated or roughened to provide a firm grip for the fingers, and the base of the bowl 16 may be grooved or corrugated. The members 6, 16 may be made of light metal.

An incombustible filter 16 provided with bores 17, connects the cartridge 10 with a chamber 15 in a cup-like support 14. A pipe-like device for use with the cartridge 10, includes a moulded plastics or die cast aluminium cartridge holder 30 to which is fixed a plastics or wooden bowl 40 and an aluminium liner 38. A steel tube 44 connects the chamber 15 with the bore 52 of a mouthpiece 51. A triangular extension 18 of the support 14 keys into a triangular aperture in the holder 30.

    • 1,066,780. Tobacco pipes. W. FELDER. Oct. 29, 1965, No. 45799/65. Heading A2M. A tobacco pipe has a body 1 having a longitudinal bore extending the whole length of the body through which extends an extension 24 of the mouthpiece 5 and between the bore and extension the moisture trap chambers are formed, one 14 adjacent the bowl and the other 17 adjacent the mouthpiece end of the pipe, the chambers being connected by a duct 26 formed between the middle portions of the extension and the bore. The bore is provided with an aluminium alloy condensing tube 2 which communicates with an insert 3, e.g. of Meerschaum, through a port 22 and insert neck 12. The insert 3 is removable from the bowl 11, is spaced therefrom by air chambers 13 and 23 and is retained in positiion by a removable rim 4. The mouthpiece extension 24 is centred in the tube 2 by ribs 21 so as to leave the smoke duct 26. Under the bowl the extension 24 is continued by a stem 15 having a plug 25 for the end of the longitudinal bore and lugs 16 which prevent condensation from flowing back into the bowl. The tube 2 forms chamber 14 around the stem 15 communicating with the passage 26. The passage 26 communicates at the mouthpiece end with the chamber 17 from which smoke is drawn by the smoker from bores 18 and 20. On withdrawal of the mouthpiece 5 and extension 24 from the body 1 the plug 25 cleans the tube 2.

[Class 130] In a pipe having an inner bowl 1 fitted in an outer bowl 2, the smoke passes successively through chambers 5, 6 connected by a groove or passage 10 through a rib on the inner bowl. A further chamber 7 is preferably provided in the stem 4. In a modification, the partition 8 between the chambers 5, 7 is closed by a plug forming an extension of the mouthpiece. In a further form, Fig. 3, annular chambers 6, 17 around the inner bowl are arranged so that the smoke from the chamber 5 passes through a bore 15 to the chamber 17 and through a groove 16 and the chamber 6 to the outlet 11 leading to annular chambers 7, 19 around an extension of the mouthpiece 3, which is formed with plugs 14, 18 to separate the chambers 5, 7, 19. In a further modification, the smoke chamber 6 is helical.
