    • A combined mechanical air reel for harvesting equipment has a control support-manifold tube and a plurality of depending tubes mounted on the support-manifold tubes that direct a curtain of air against grain to be cut to move the grain toward a cutter bar on which the reel is mounted. At the same time a rotatable finger carrying bat type mechanical reel, also mounted on the central support-manifold tube, is used to feed material to the cutter bar. The mechanical reel bats rotate around the outside of the support-manifold tube. The bats extend parallel to the cutter bar, and the postion of fingers on the bats is controlled by a cam action that permits the bats and the fingers to enter and exit the grain substantially vertically to reduce shattering of the grain. A positive cam drive is provided for actuating the fingers. Because an air assist is used for feeding, the rotating mechanical portion of the reel can be rotated slower than conventional reels and positioned higher in the crop to reduce shattering and wrapping, and to also improve visibility of the cutter bar. The air flow from the depending tubes improves feeding, and saves and keeps the cutter bar clean of shelled crop.

    • A tea harvester in the form of a wheeled vehicle adapted to straddle at least one row of plants carries therebeneath a horizontal transverse cutter bar in position to clip the tops of the plants in a row. Blower and manifold means are carried by the vehicle for emitting a horizontally-elongated vertically narrow stream of air rearwardly and downwardly across the cutter bar for blowing clippings rearwardly off the bar into the mouth of a conveyor means. The undersurface of the manifold means and its airstream-defining outlet are spaced above and forwardly of the bar to enable the tops of the plants to stand upright in the path of the airstream while being clipped. The conveyor means extends upwardly and rearwardly to convey the clippings to a collecting receptacle. The cutter bar, the blower and manifold means, and the conveyor means are all mounted to vehicle for vertical adjustment to adjust the above-ground cutting height of the cutter bar.

    • A pepper harvester includes a picking mechanism for picking peppers from pepper plants. One or more air outlets are located forward of the front end of the picking mechanism. An air supply provides compressed air to the air outlets, which direct air streams backwards towards the picking mechanism or other portion of the harvester which can collect the peppers. During operation of the harvester, peppers which fall from pepper plants ahead of the picking mechanism are blown backwards by the air streams onto the picking mechanism to be collected, thereby increasing the yield of the harvester. The harvester can be used for other fruits or vegetables in addition to peppers.

The stripping panel and pickup teeth are constructed of a plastic material which provides self-lubricating qualities to enable a close fitting relation between the teeth and slots and the area of the panel having the slots therein is upwardly inclined and the area between the slots is recessed to form a longitudinal groove-like structure to guide seeds rearwardly toward the auger of the harvesting machine.
