摘要： A flexible spike and knife resistant composite incorporating a stack of at least ten consolidated layer groupings. Each layer grouping has a normalized stiffness of less than about 5 g/g/m2 as tested by a modified ASTM Test Method D6828-02 and contains one or two spike resistant textile layers, an adhesive layer, and one or two knife resistant textile layers. The spike resistant textile layers contain a plurality of interlocked yarns or fibers, where the yarns or fibers have a tenacity of about 8 or more grams per denier and the fiber size is less than ten denier per filament. The knife resistant textile layers contain monoaxially drawn fiber elements, where the fiber elements have an aspect ratio of greater than one and have a size greater than 100 denier per filament. The fiber elements of the knife resistant textile layer are bonded to each other or to the spike resistant layer.

摘要： A fabric for use in outdoor apparel is disclosed comprising an insulating layer including a multitude of cross fibers disposed between exterior fabric layers, the combination of which creates a temperature regulating material suitable for maintaining a comfortable body temperature in environments where the ambient temperature is low. The fabric is created using a double needle bar knitting technique which allows several fiber choices to be incorporated into a single fabric sample and infuses the enclosed, insulating layer with a multitude of air spaces helpful in the insulating process. In addition to air spaces, the invention uses phase change technology in the insulating layer to regulate and stabilize the temperature of the air spaces that exist between the cross fibers, thus producing a thermal regulation effect greater than would be possible if either technology were used alone.

摘要： Sewn, quilted ceramic blankets (AFRSI) and integrally woven core insulation systems (TABI) were examined in a 170 decibel aeroacoustic environment under oscillating air loads. Preconditioning in a radiant heat source was done at both 2000.degree. F. and 2500.degree. F. before testing. A multi-layer ceramic weave construction based on an angle interlock weave architecture is superior over all other TPS systems examined. These configurations do not require a surface coating to enhance survivability. Single-ply TABI fabric surfaces using an insulated integrally woven core structure survive up to 2000.degree. F. without the use of a ceramic coating to toughen the surface to the aeroacoustic noise level. AFRSI blankets of the art require a ceramic coating in order to demonstrate comparable performance after exposure to a 2000.degree. F. radiant heat temperature.

摘要： A composite laminate material is described comprising a plurality of layers of graphite sheet material coated on at least one side thereof with a ceramic material having a density greater than about 50% of its theoretical density, preferably, up to about 95% or greater theoretical density. The ceramic material constitutes at least 90% of the thickness of the composite laminate. The composite laminate is formed by applying to one or both sides of graphite sheet material a ceramic layer compacted to at least 50% theoretical density. A plurality of layers of the ceramic coated graphite sheets are then stacked and pressure molded by conventional techniques with the various layers being adhered together using a suitable adhesive. The resulting laminate is light weight and thin but has sufficient strength to be used as armor material to protect against projectiles. The laminate material is easily shaped and cut and because of its light weight is especially useful for making body armor.
