摘要： A collecting spindle assembly is provided for lifting and rotating a substrate mounting chassis (1) within a high vacuum sputtering chamber. The assembly comprises a first shaft (5) within which is mounted a second shaft (2) the axis of which is parallel to, but offset from, that of the first shaft. One end of the second shaft (2) is provided with an eccentrically-mounted bearing (3) in spaced relation to a protrusion (4) provided on the corresponding end of the first shaft. By relatively rotating the shafts (5, 2) the spacing between the bearing (3) and protrusion (4) can be altered whereby to effect a clamping/unclamp- ing action. The shafts (5, 2) extend out through the chamber wall where rotational drive means (10, 13, 27, 29) are provided for relatively rotating the shafts. These drive means comprise an actuator (10, 13) arranged to effect translational movement of a high helix screw (27) that is constrained against rotation. and a helix nut (29) engaged by the screw and coupled to the second shaft (2).

摘要： A method and apparatus are provided, for clamping a fiber placement tool to a fiber placement machine, along a rotational axis of the fiber placement machine, through use of a clamping apparatus having a plurality of drive lugs (120) extending axially from the machine, and having three intersecting faying surfaces thereof which mate simultaneously in substantially intimate contact with three corresponding intersecting faying surfaces of a plurality of drive lug receptacles extending axially from the tool. Pairs of movable tines, disposed on opposite sides of each drive lug (120), pull the drive lugs (120) into intimate contact with the drive lug receptacles. Master fixtures are used for setting the drive lugs (120) and lug receptacles with respect to corresponding ones of the other, to achieve a desired intimate fit between faying surfaces thereof.

For greater ease of construction and use, the axial expansion (58) of the gripping components (56), which are arranged in rows in large numbers at close intervals, is greater than the width of their gripping surfaces (54) around the perimeter. Preferably, the gripping components have the form of a coil spring (3).
