    • An apparatus for correcting camera shake due to movement of the hands comprises: a correction unit for correcting for the movement of the hands; a drive unit for driving the correction unit; a control device for controlling the drive unit; a movement detection unit for detecting the amount of the movement of the hands and generating an output corresponding to the detected amount of the movement; and a speed calculating unit for calculating the target driving speed of the correction unit on the basis of the output of the movement detection unit. The control unit controls the drive unit so that the drive unit intermittently drives the correction unit if the target driving speed calculated by the speed calculating unit is smaller than a predetermined value.

    • An improved shift optical system for a camera which is adapted to be responsive to input received from devices external to the system. An anti-vibration optical system, constituting the shift optical system, is provided so as to be movable on a plane perpendicular to the optical axis of the anti-vibration optical system by a driver. The action of the driver is controlled by a control device which is responsive to input from either an anti-vibration system or an external device. The anti-vibration system of the camera is provided with an image blur detector, which outputs the amount of vibration experienced by the camera, and a compensation amount calculator which outputs a signal to the control device indicative of where the anti-vibration optical system must be placed in order to compensate for vibrations. In order to interface with the external equipment, the control device is connected to a coordinate converter which receives information via a communication device connected to the external equipment. The coordinate converter allows the use of external equipment having a coordinate system that is either of a different scale or skewed from that coordinate system the control device. In operation, the control device accepts and acts upon information from either the anti-vibration system or the external equipment. The external equipment can be, for example, a test device which measures the responsiveness of the anti-vibration optical system over its entire range of movement. Further, the external equipment can be a pattern generating device which directs the anti-vibration optical system to move in a preset sequence to create a pattern of light on a photograph.

    • An auto focusing apparatus in a camera comprises a detecting device for detecting the measured distance values of an object corresponding to a plurality of areas in a photographing image field, a first determining device for determining a first measured distance value which is the measured distance value of the shortest distance from the plurality of measured distance values detected by the detecting device, a comparing device for comparing the first measured distance value determined by the first determining device with a threshold value, a second determining device for determining the mean value of the plurality of measured distance values detected by the detecting device as a second measured distance value, and a driving device for driving a photo-taking lens on the basis of the first measured distance value when it is judged by the comparing device that the first measured distance value is smaller than the threshold value, and driving the photo-taking lens on the basis of the second measured distance value when it is judged by the comparing device that the first measured distance value is equal to or greater than the threshold value.
