    • A method and apparatus adapted to adjust threshold values for initiating HO measurements based on terminal or user equipment (UE) performance. The threshold values for initiating the HO measurements and for executing the HO may be determined by the network. Prior to determining whether to proceed with these procedures, the thresholds are adjusted, based on the actual UE performance. This adjustment is achieved by applying an offset in dB that captures the effective SIR improvement of the advanced receiver compared to the standard receiver used to set the thresholds. The offset depends on, among other things, the receiver type used, the number of receiver antennas, the multi-path channel profile, the number of active radio links, and the services/connection modes that are currently active in the UE.

    • A cellular communication system has an air interface divided into frames, each consisting of sub-frames at least two of which are synchronization sub-frames. For each cell, different cell-related synchronization signals are transmitted to user equipments (UEs) in different synchronization signal sub-frames. The UE detects cell identities of first and second cells. Weights then control generation of weighted handover measurements made from the first cell's synchronization signals received during synchronization sub-frames, wherein each of the weights is a function of the cell identity of the first cell, the cell identity of the second cell, and which ones of the first and second cells' cell-related synchronization signals are transmitted in the respective one of the plurality of synchronization sub-frames during which the weight is applied. A filtered handover measurement, upon which a handover decision can be made, is generated from the weighted handover measurements.

    • The present disclosure relates to a technique for avoiding, forestalling, or reducing re-establishment procedures in a telecommunications system having multiple carriers. A method aspect of this technique includes monitoring a signal quality of an anchor component carrier associated with a serving cell of a mobile terminal and used by the mobile terminal. If the signal quality of the anchor component carrier violates a first signal quality condition, then a parameter (of, e.g., a downlink signal) of at least one candidate component carrier associated with the serving cell and distinct from the anchor component carrier is measured and the signal quality of the at least one candidate component carrier is determined based on the measured parameter. If the determined signal quality fulfils a second signal quality condition, then reselection to the at least one candidate component carrier is initiated such that the candidate component carrier becomes the anchor component carrier associated with the serving cell and used by the mobile terminal.
