    • In one embodiment, an apparatus comprises serializer/deserializer (SERDES) circuits. Each SERDES circuit is configured to transmit data on a respective lane to which the SERDES circuit is are coupled during use. The apparatus further comprises a transmit pipe coupled to the SERDES circuits. The transmit pipe comprises stages, and each stage is configured to process a maximum bandwidth unit (a maximum width of a port that is configurable on the lanes and smaller than a largest packet transmitted on the ports). In another embodiment, the apparatus comprises a transmit command queue; a transmit scheduler coupled to the transmit command queue; and a storage device coupled to the transmit scheduler that stores a scheduling calendar. The transmit scheduler is configured to schedule maximum bandwidth units for transmission on ports configured over the lanes on which packets are transmitted. The maximum bandwidth unit is smaller than a packet and is a maximum width of a port that is configurable on the lanes. The transmit scheduler is configured to schedule the maximum bandwidth units according to the scheduling calendar.

    • A system and method for handling address resolution protocol requests at an intermediary device in a local area network. The intermediary device has an address resolution protocol cache for mapping Internet protocol addresses to physical layer addresses for devices in the local area network. The intermediary device receives a multicast address resolution protocol request having an Internet protocol address for a device on the local area network. The address resolution protocol address contained in the multicast address resolution protocol request is extracted and the address resolution protocol cache is accessed to seek to obtain a physical layer address mapped to the extracted Internet protocol address.     • A method for conserving battery power in a wireless device coupled through an access point to a server in a network, the server being coupled to at least one client in the network, each of the wireless device, the at least one client, and the access point having a respective hardware address, the method comprising: receiving at the server through the access point a message indicative of the wireless device joining the network and providing the hardware address of the wireless device; updating a list of hardware addresses for clients in the network to include the hardware address of the wireless device, the list including a respective Internet Protocol (“IP”) address for each hardware address; and, sending from the server to at least one of the wireless device, the at least one client, and the access point, the updated list of hardware addresses to thereby reduce a number of request messages broadcast on the network for information that is contained in the updated list that the wireless device need leave a sleep mode to process.
