    • A beam position sensor for a beam scanner is disclosed for use in a laser printer. The printer comprises three diode lasers each of which emits at a different wavelength. The beams from the three lasers are combined by the use of dichroic plates to form one combined beam. The combined beam is scanned onto a receiving medium by a polygon. The beam position sensor of the present invention is adapted to sense the position of the polygon in order to provide a synchronizing signal which will insure that each raster line in the printer is started at the proper position. The beam position sensor includes a diode laser and optics for projecting a beam from the laser onto the polygon. The beam is reflected back from the polygon into a photodetector which effects the start of a new raster line at the appropriate time.

    • A beam splitter for color imaging apparatus is disclosed. The beam splitter comprises two prism elements which are joined together with a dichroic interference filter interposed between the two elements. An input beam to the beam splitter is divided into a first output beam which is reflected from the filter and a second output beam which is transmitted through the filter. In order to provide a beam splitter of a generally triangular cross section in which one of the output beams has the desired spectral content for a luminance channel in the imaging apparatus and the other output beam has the desired spectral content for a chrominance channel, the interference filter is formed of alternate layers of SiO.sub.2 and TiO.sub.2 and is disposed such that an input light beam to the beam splitter has a relatively small angle of incidence on the filter.

    • A see-through head-mounted optical apparatus for a viewer has at least one display module, each display module having a display energizable to form an image and a positive field lens optically coupled to the surface of the display and disposed to direct imaged light from the display toward a first surface of a prism. A curved reflector element is in the path of the imaged light through the prism and disposed at a second surface of the prism, opposite the first surface. The curved reflector element has a refractive surface and a curved reflective surface disposed to collimate imaged light received from the display and direct this light toward a beam splitter that is disposed within the prism and that is at an oblique angle to the collimated reflected light. The beam splitter redirects the incident collimated reflected light through the prism to form an entrance pupil for the viewer.

    • An afocal beam relay has a concave reflective surface having a first center of curvature and a first vertex that define an optical axis. A convex reflective surface has a second center of curvature that is substantially coincident with the first center of curvature and a second vertex that lies along the optical axis. The convex reflective surface faces toward the concave reflective surface to relay a decentered entrance pupil to a decentered exit pupil. An aspheric corrector element is disposed in the path of input light that is directed to the decentered entrance pupil and has correction values that are substantially centered on the first center of curvature.
