    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a material with high-grade physical properties consisting of whisker-like needle crystal of new 9Al2 O3 .2B2 O3 through such a design that a group of needle crystals of 9Al2 O3 .B2 O3 each having a diameter of a specific length or less are uniformly and randomly distributed and mutually bound at least one point through sharing needle crystal constituents without the aid of any binder. SOLUTION: A mixture of aluminum oxide (or an aluminum compound capable of forming aluminum oxide when heated) and boron oxide (or a boron compound capable of forming boron oxide when heated) is prepared so as to be (9:2) to (9:6) in the molar ratio: Al2 O3 /B2 O3 , and then subjected to powder molding (compression molding) under controlled molding pressure to form a compact 0.4-2.3g/cm in density (86-20% in porosity), which is then transferred in air to a hot oven where the compact is heated at 800-1,400 deg.C, thus obtaining the objective porous inorganic material consisting of whisker-like needle crystal of 9Al2 O3 .2B2 O3 each

    • PURPOSE:To provide a compact fluid heating pipe with improved safety by fixing a pair of electrodes to both inner and outer peripheral surface of a positive characteristic tubular thermistor and supplying current in the direction of pipe wall thickness to reduce an electric resistance value and generate a large quantity of heat irrespective of the length of the pipe. CONSTITUTION:A positive characteristic thermistor 1 is manufactured by kneading together in vacuum a forming blank including lead titanate and organic binder as main components for example and baking it after extruding and molding it into the pipe having a deformed section. A plurality of electrodes 2, 3 consisting of silver films for example are formed on the whole surfaces of both inner and outer peripheries of the static characteristic thermistor 1 to constitute a fluid heating pipe. Thus, since current flows in the direction of the thickness of the pipe wall, the electric resistance value is essentially low compared with a convential heating unit having electrodes disposed on both ends of the pipe and current supplied longitudinally of the pipe. Hence, a large quantity of heat can be generated even by low voltage irrespective of the length of the pipe so that the safety can be improved and miniaturization of the fluid heating pipe can be achieved.
