    • PURPOSE: To recognize another vehicle by detecting light emitted by the vehicle at night without the erroneous recegnition of a street light or the like. CONSTITUTION: In a headlight switching device according to this invention, when the front image of a vehicle is inputted (Step 601), the image is binarized (Step 602), the outline is extracted (Step 603), the size of a bright part (light) is obtained (Step 604), and a pair having symmetry is extracted on the basis thereof (Step 605). In the image obtained after predetermined time, the symmetricalness of the pair is pursued, and when it can be pursued, the light is adopted as the light source of the other vehicle (Step 606) and an inter-vehicle distance is obtained (Step 607), and when the inter-vehicle distance decreases in succession, it is determined that the other vehicle is an on-coming vehicle, and a headlight is switched over to a low beam (Step 608). Accordingly, the headlight is appropriately switched over without erroneously recognizing a street light or the like for the light source of the other vehicle.

    • PURPOSE:To always properly collate fingerprint with high precision by using the fingerprint picture, which is corrected by the magnification indicating the degree of distortion determined from tranpezoidal distortion based on a standard graphic, as a registered fingerrint picture or a collation fingerprint picture and collating both of them. CONSTITUTION:In a trapezoidal distortion correction data calculating routine, each magnification and optical axis position coordinates required for correction of the trapezoidal distortion are calculated to obtain correction data. In a trapezoidal distortion correcting routine, the correction is performed based on, the correction data that the trapezoidal distortion of each fingerprint picture required for registration and collation is eliminated. Thus, the trapezoidal distortion inevitably mixed in the registered fingerprint picture or the collation fingerprint picture including the attachment error of a prism 10 and a CCD camera 40 is corrected with the high precision without preliminarily recognizing the optical axis position coordinates, the angle of attachment of the prism 10, and that of the CCD camera 40. Thus, the error peculiar to a fingerprint photographing device S is surely excluded to perform fingerprint collation, and the fingerprint collation precision is improved.

    • PURPOSE:To further improve responsiveness even if the difference in rotating speed between both plates is slight by providing an interval adjusting device which moves either of inner and outer plates with respect to the other in the axial direction and reducing the interval between both plates. CONSTITUTION:In order to improve the transmission of torque, an actuator 40 is operated extending a rod 40a, a lever 42 is swung in the B direction pressing thrust washers 24, and a housing 20 is moved axially in the A direction via spline parts 28a and 29a, thereby, reducing the intervals between inner plates 10 and outer plates 21. Thus, as the intervals between the plates 10 and 21 are reduced, a shearing stress applied to a viscous fluid 3 in a closed space 22 is accompanyingly increased, thereby, enabling a torque transmission in inverse proportion to the dimension of the interval. The transmission of torque can be also carried out by closely attaching the plates 10 and 21 in a directly connected condition. Accordingly, the response performance of a viscous clutch can be improved.
